Cheaper ferry tickets came in in October last year so great prices now. Very regular ferries from either Lochaline or Oban to Mull. All found in the previous post above. Lived on Mull 4 years and its an amazing place, loads to see, you wont want to leave to go onto Skye.
Loch Buie and Loch Na Keal are wonderfull wildcamping spots. No problem getting to either with you van.
Enjoy, feeling jelous now.

we love everything in western Scotland, and most of the rest of Scotland for that matter, Mull and Skye are both nice, but they are both very popular, I reckon the views onto both islands are better than being there, and can be achieved without any ferries at all :) the mainland is very similar in most cases.

Get a ferry out to Harris for big everything. beaches, mountains, views, peace and quiet

But we have done nearly all the islands ferries, you need to go and explore for yourselves (y)

Lovely ferry crossing from Mallaig, until last year we had always just gone over the bridge. Fancied some kippers from Race's in Mallaig so used the ferry to cross, wasn't dear as I recall and we're 7.5 m. Best kippers I have ever tasted!

Mallaig to Skye was about ÂŁ48 (Sept 2015) one way. We came back via the bridge, and then onwards to Gairloch

Sept 2014 - We did Corran - Ardgour - supposed to be about ÂŁ7, but the ticket lady spent too much time fussy over our dogs, by time we'd crossed (about 5 mins) she'd run out of time to charge us. Then a fab drive to Lochaline to get the ferry across to Fishnish (about ÂŁ27)

The coastal road anti-clockwise from Tobermory is Interesting in a coachbuilt m/h, particularly when there is an oncoming cycle race as with us, our m/h is only 6m.

Haha.....or France or Spain (warmer!)

Well we're in Spain now but for us it does not compare with Italy in warmer weather.

We have never had a MH holiday in France, sure we've enjoyed France in the MH but always en-route.

Similar with Germany, though one year we did dedicate the trip to Germany but when we got there the rain, the floods so we ended up in Riccioni in the sunshine and Italian hospitality, then enjoyed Germany some weeks later.

Let's face it, 2000 years ago Italy had the first ever 1,000,000 person city, a spectacular city, full of astounding architecture requiring astounding engineering, it's no wonder Italy today has so much to enjoy. At the bottom of Garda, Sirmione, there is a residence going back 2000 years that exceeds anything the oligarchs would build today, the scale and opulence is indeed astounding. To be fair, the Alhambra is not bad but 1000 years later.

Whatever, cross that Chanel, this carbuncle at the end of Europe has nothing to compare with mainland Europe.

Oops, I meant to say Spain is warmer than France. I agree however Italy does have a lot to offer. We are in Spain right now but mostly for the warmth ( with a little old history in the mix)

What is access like on the islands for an RV? Ours is only a small one at just over 8metres and under 9 if we have the bike rack on. We've a trip for a wedding in September and if ok will drive up and stay for a week or so.

Most roads on Mull are single track but with plenty of passing places. Two way almost all the way from Craignure ferry to Tobermory.
The west coast road which is a must due to the views is still driven by large vans and the normal dustcart etc. People either say they hate the single track roads or the're no problem.
If it's a motorbike you have just use the likes of The campsites at Craignure, Fionaphort and Tobermory as bases and explore from there.
For prices look at the calmac website as prices being quoted in the thread are all going to cheaper now due to RET, 'road equivalent tariff' about a third of the prices.

Thank you @shawn&emma really useful info. It's pedal bikes we have not motor but used to either plan I and stocking up so we can chill and enjoy where we stop if it's not within sensible cycling distance. Really looking forward to our trip and September should be good weather.
