Leaving for Spain on 27th January. We were planning to head for Camping Rio Jara in Tarifa as we stayed there last year and liked it, but checking the prices it seems to be very expensive even in low season. Wondered if anyone has stayed at Camping Torre de la Pena. Their prices seem to be a lot less but mixed reviews on Trip advisor. Thanks.

Tarifa,an interesting town albeit very windy. It was owned by a rich Arab who used to charge a toll to allow ships to pass between Europ and Africa. From which the word "tariff" is derived.
The campsites around Tarifa, and Cadiz, costa de la luz, tend to be cheaper than Costa del sol.
Take a look around Grazlema, Zahara, and Jerez area.

Haven't been there, but it looks as though it's worth trying. You're right, the Tripadvisor reviews are very mixed, but if you don't like it, you can always move on.
I think we'll give it a try for a couple of nights

@The Dude , you'll be there before us. We'll probably not be there until the end of Feb. Would be interested to know what it's like.

Newbie!
We stayed at Torre de la Pena in December it is a nice site but pricey on the electric €4 extra a night showers not great but some mountain view pitches have a wonderful view of tarifa. Beach front pitches were nice but very windy. Bar expensive. Wifi only in bar. Camping Pinar San jose at Zahora very nice modern facilities although a little remote. Camping Valdequeros at Tarifa is also a nice site didn't stay there but friends gave good reports.

We stayed at Camping Valdevaqueroes for a few days a couple of years ago. A long way from anywhere but otherwise fine. It's listed in CamperContact.

We are at Pinar San Jose now -planned to stay for a couple of days them move on to Tarifa. We've just extended our stay here for the second time and are currently staying until 15th Feb, although it's such a brilliant site we could end up staying even longer!! Probably one of the best sites we've ever stayed at (and we've stayed at a lot!) and only 17 euros ACSI rate although much less if you stay for a month or more.
