Despite having AVG and google pop up blockers I seem to have been hacked by a web tracker that is bringing in pop ups, covering the subject I have just viewed on this site,
If im reading an Insurance post the pop up is insurance based,if its a battery post, (excuse the pun) the pop up is for batteries I have scanned and nothings been found, any software out there that will sort it, without leaving behind somthing in its place

Try Adblock it works for me

Had lots of probs recently but I have recently switched from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox

Once I got used to it, I found less adverts, less tracking cookies etc install their adblock plus

Additionally there is a special "opt out" service

Use this link ..... but make sure when you do it, that you go back and manually opt out of any that dont automatically work Here is the link

Good luck

Hi Geo,
I had a similar thing just last week . I ran Malwarebytes' Antimalware free version and it cleared it out for me. Nothing else seemed to touch it - not even the paid for stuff .

Malwarebytes.org

Worth a go anyway.

Not sure if it will work because I don't ever get popups to try it on but right click somewhere in the popup and select properties or perhaps page source. That may give you a clue where they are originating form.
Sure it is not Google. They are THE specialists in tagetted advertising

Hi Geo

I concur with a lot of the suggestions, best I've found so far and I try to keep up with changes to programs and threats as far as is possible and this is what I use:

Comodo Internet Security, has firewall, anti-virus and defence+ (originally available as Comodo BoClean but no longer available seperately) which is supposed to be as good if not better than Spybot S&D and is all in one program and highly respected. Finjan for secure web browsing, slow but an extra level of surfing security and compatible with IE or Firefox, and Malwarebytes if anything significant gets through, which it hasn't so far. Mozilla firefox with pop up blocker on and add-on, Adblock already suggested and of course CCleaner.

Good luck.

try SUPERAntiSpyware

Another really effective free program that will remove that infection is SUPERAntiSpyware. Download SUPERAntiSpyware from www.superantispyware.com. Either the Free or Pro Trial Edition will work fine.

Run the install.exe file.

Select “Scan Your Computer.”

Select “Perform Complete Scan.”

Follow the prompts to quarantine/remove the infected files.

Make sure to reboot following the scan.

I've got the same infection had it for months tried all the advised programme's none of them able to get rid of it. We've found it in the programme list its called FAVORITE but has some sort of security built in so I can't even uninstall it.

:Eeek::Eeek::cry::cry::shout: these are added for the benefit of the miseries ::bigsmile:

Forestboy & Geo

If you still find it impossible to get rid of, Google something like "remove *****" whatever the problem is called. May come up with some instructions from other people who have had the same problem. You might need to right click on the link in favourites and look at its properties.

Sounds like you would benefit from running HijackTHIS and posting the results |MG| HijackThis 1.99.1 Download . Don't do any fixes till you get a good idea from someone else what the results show in the Hijack log results as it is possible to trash your system. There may be something running on start up or hidden away somewhere.

Problem is quite often removing what seems like the culprit won't solve your problem as it could be cleverly concealed in several places on your pc to regenerate on restarting the pc after removing parts of it. Been there done that.

Good luck.

Sounds like a trojan addclicker designed to artificially generate traffic to certain Web sites. These Trojans send HTTP requests to simulate clicks on banner advertisements, or to inflate Web counter statistics.

They are a low risk threat ;but still very annoying, high risk threats would do more than what you have described.

Malwarebytes should sort it
If after removing the trojan it returns on reboot.would also suggest disabling system restore.
If a virus, worm, or Trojan infects a computer, System Restore may back up the virus, worm, or Trojan on the computer and when you reboot it simply reinstalls.

You would need to enable system restore again

updates

Regardless as to what security software you are running (MalwareBytes and SUPERAntiSpyware are both effective and free) you need to make sure to update to the lastest "definitions" (the basic rules and guidelines your software uses to identify and remove the latest infections).

If you are running a reputable anti-virus and/or anti-spyware software but have let your definitions grow old, even a very effective product may not find the latest infection variant.

Hi All,

One of the best websites for the removal of Trojans, Spyware, Worms and goodness knows what else is Bleeping Computer.

I have had various 'issues' in the past and they always have the answer. There are step by step instructions even for nearly all levels of computer knowhow. They will also recommend software to use to get rid of a particular infection.

Another thing to consider is whether the "pop-ups" you are getting are "pop-unders". These use the users terms keyed into searches, not necessarily Google. Most Adware uses this type of practice, but pop unders are more accurate.

Good internet security

Hi Geo

We have Kaspersky Internet Security on all our machines - desktops, laptops, running XP, XP64 and Vista operating systems. Price varies you can get it online or in the shops - PC World etc. KIS 2009 is pretty impressive now with better malware capability, Trojans, Worms. These are now a bigger problem than viruses. You can get a 6 month free copy with the computer mags at the moment. This is brilliant value for an excellent product.

P.S. The four by two's worked a treat.

Good luck, ACDCDAVE
