On and off for many years.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether the "local" numbers of the registration for a new vehicle would be allocated from where the dealer is based or from the first registered keeper's home address?

It's not important, I'm just curious. Don't spend ages looking it up! I've had a quick look but haven't found the answer :(

DEF.. The dealer..
You will find they already have a list of allocated number issued to them..
When I bought mine in 2012 the dealer showed me a sheet and I picked the one I liked..

Same thing with 2 cars we bought..

That's possible, I supplied a vehicle to a relative of one of my best customers who lived in Cornwall. I normally supplied plates beginning GU-GZ or garden of England. Cornwall residents prefer their west-country plates so that the traffic wardens recognise them amongst the masses.

I spoke to DVLA and got special dispensation for this one lady. Everyones a winner baby, thats for sure.

As @tonka said, when we bought the motorhome we were given the option to choose from a list, none of them very appealing. :)

Edit: having just seen Popeye's post, that's what we did, bought a new plate from the DVLA cherished plate website.

You can pick plates up off Ebay from £29 if you just want a dateless/arealess one, all it will then cost is the transfer fee (£80 I think):

I've just bought one for £30 for the camper:

We have one on our van , my initials, the first two letters , Julie's initials the last three and the proper year number in the middle, means nothing to anyone else, but at £250 a very small part of the price of a motorhome, and in fact nearly all the year numbers are still available from dvla, so we could have a set of them on our other motors.(y):)

Most of those cheap ones are Ulster numbers including that one (I think) wouldn't be my first choice.

I did buy one from DVLA last year as an A Class is a bit more timeless, M100 LHB, wife's name is Mijhan, Mi for short and my initials are LHB.:)

Not sure why you wouldn't want an Ulster reg no ... we've been to Ireland (North and South) 3 times now and never had any problems, if the crossings weren't so expensive I'd go all the time - I love the place!

Most Kent plates are GA through to GO supplied out of Maidstone and the G stands for Garden of England. GP to GY are issued by Brighton and come as far west as Littlehampton and even Chichester on occasion.

The LK plate is one of the London plates and is issued by Borehamwood I believe.

sorry just spotted it was LX in which case it is still London but out of Sidcup.
