@Techno100
Seeing your links to Riverdoux brings back memories we stayed on the Aire right alongside the beach it was fabulous.
@bungy and I were sat outside having a glass or 2 one evening when this huge insect arrived and started visiting all the flowers. Turned out it was a hummingbird moth Darryl has some pics I think.
Handy spot for visiting La Rochelle as well, toll is a bit pricey but eh!! its the same for everyone.
Also bought the nicest honey I've ever tasted in a local market on the island.

Hi Antony bleasdale, I know you said wild sites or aire's, but we stayed on a municipal campsite at St Marie de Re , right on the coast ,literally on the beach parked on hard sand or beach just thru the gate (beach a bit rugged an good for moules) site basic but ok

As someone who hasn't been to the Ile de Re how is it different from the Ile d'oleron which is free to get to? :)

I can only say as we have found , been to Ile'de Oleron once, returned to Ile de Rae many times, never once begrudged the toll over the bridge. For me Ile de Rae is about the cycle ways linking everywhere on the Island practically traffic free. The beautiful little harbours all different in there own way. The beaches are excellent, I don't think I could go to the area without a week on Ile de Rae. But without bikes I think it would be different.

We stopped on the one right near the town , easy walking distance, we didn't have to pay, so can't comment on the price, maybe still free don't know.

Edit Obviously mean the town in the op title

Decided to visit last year for a couple of days, stayed almost two weeks (on sites) what a wonderful gem of a place. Going back this year, its a cyclist and walker paradise (based on our out of high season stay).

We loved the Ile de Rae although we did go high season and it was very busy with holiday makers from Paris . Great cycling and tracks and towns and villages and beaches.booked a site because it was so busy . Did the Ile de Ron the year before not so picturesque but we cycled to fort Boyard and caught the ferry to La Rochelle for the day! Happy days just going to check out my diaries and relive the memories!

First time we went we arrived at the first aire across the bridge, absolutely dire, sardine land and wire fencing everywhere. Ended up on an aire nr st martins which cost 14 euros ! Too dark and waste of toll to leave. So glad we stayed tho. Been back annually ever since as it is so beautiful and we can cycle everywhere. However we use acsi sites all the time now. There are a few other aires but not tried them. Well worth the toll and there are regular buses to La Rochelle if you fancy it :) Tho we used the municipal site there.

Euro`s are on then but you should be well away from any football issues and England will probably be knocked out by then anyway

Have been to aire by bridge but I think it's now €40 for our van so won't be going again soon

Joe

Just checked and may be class 3 so could be €18

Hi
Did any of you stay on a campsite whilst there?
Or notice any campsites whilst staying on Aires that you though looked good or in a nice location?
May add to our wish list but as we'd be visiting in school holidays/peak summer, wouldn't want to risk availability on an aire for a week.

We are currently here on Il de re. We are on the ACSI site La Grainitiers which is fabulous. Cleanest facilities ever seen on a site, you can walk into La Flotte, also cycle paths everywhere. Ideal if you have a dog as miles of walks in woodlands alongside the site. We will certainly be returning

How far is the beach from this site?
I think it's about a kilometre. We walked into La Flotte in about 20 mins. Check out their website it has all the info on
