Spending time touring the UK (1 Viewer)

Well we have decided that going overseas in the short term is off, postponing until Sept/Oct time.
Nige has medical appointments and renewal of his medically restricted driving licence for the first time this summer.
Boston is on new medication and doing great 4 months free of seizures.
So on balance staying in the UK a little longer makes sense.
Now where to go and what to do?
Current confirmed have booking at Rowntree park York for end of Jan for my birthday so thinking will start plans from then.
Going to book Chester Camperfest for Easter.
Other than that no idea. Definitely want to go to Scotland and hopefully avoid the midges.
So any tips for places to visit? We like to be close to a town/city unless its say a remote stunning beach. We don't have bikes as can't manage with the dogs and bikes so walk everywhere when out and about. Love beaches (really love em), but also busy bustling cities.
Will include Brighton CC as used in past and like location.
Thinking about Southport CC as not been yet.
If anyone knows of any none CC sites located in or close to cities that allow dogs would appreciate information.
Finally Rallies would love to attend some
as long as the dogs are ok to come along.

Thanks in advance

Lin Nige and the wolf pack :)

South Lytchett manor site near Poole, bus stop at the door to Poole, also has a 2 acre dog exercise field and nearby pub which allows dogs in, I know you said no CC sites but I must recommend ferry meadows site at Peterborough, set in a huge country park which is doggy paradise, mine sulks when we have to leave, Peterbourgh city centre great for shopping.

Thanks Don, will take a look at those.
Not adverse to CC sites we love York & Brighton. Have found a lot of them are a bit too isolated for us though. Will be looking at the open all year list for CC as these tend to be in or close to cities.
Lin :)

Oxford C&CC site: park and ride over the road with very frequent buses to Oxford as well as Abingdon etc. From the city centre, where there is plenty to do, you can get frequent buses all over the place eg Blenheim with excellent dog walking, Witney or Milton Keynes with good shopping and so on. A pleasant walk into town from the site as well and lots to do locally.

We've been mainly using rally and THS sites run by the C&CC and MCC in the last 2 or 3 years. Most need no advance booking. The C&CC, especially, has a wide range of places on offer and both are well worth the membership fee.

On and off for many years.
The Northumberland Coast is stunning - lots of variety from "traditional" seaside places like Seahouses (fish and chips and slot machines) to miles of golden sands at Bamburgh. Pretty villages like Alnmouth and Craster and Beadnell (ummmmm Craster kippers) and nature reserves at Druridge. Castles to explore and it never gets too busy.

You could also come and have a night or two parked up at the Puddleduck Palace.

We visited a couple of places around there when we first got a van in June 14, think it was Berwick and Seahouses, great beaches, dogs loved it. We were supposed to go to Beadnell Bay but had to cancel due to Boston being poorly.
Will certainly go back :)

We didn't renew our C&cc after the first year as we only used one site. Will look at renewing it again though as I seem to recall there were a few places in Scotland we wanted to visit in 2014, but didn't get chance :)

For Scotland, most people miss out on the very South West corner, the Machars peninsula . Very scenic route round the coast, particular favourite area Isle of Whithorn (see avatar) , and then up the Ayrshire coast.

PM me if you want any more info on the area!

One of my favourites in Scotland is Killin CC site. On the edge of a village and lovely walks around the Loch with the dog. Southport is also very good for dogs and site is close to town.

We've never used a C&CC main site and have only used a few of their CSs. The attraction for us is the freedom and diversity of the THS & rally sites.

Seconded. Also the south east coast is worth a few nights.

Don't forget the islands of the Clyde and the Kintyre peninsula. :)

Chester Rally now booked until 28th Mar, then onto Southport for couple nights, so logically can then work our way up to Scotland on South West side, eventually crossing Scotland to return down the North East side taking in Northumberland as we head back to Scarborough May/ June time, Nige is busy consulting the handy CC site map we have.
Before Chester I think we will head South for Feb and March :)

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
Moffat CCC site. Just a 5 min walk from the centre of town . Great riverside walks . A couple of nearby open fields to throw balls etc. Weve just got back from a week long stay over new year.
Nice little town, plenty little shops , great baker and butcher plus a co-op . Plenty eating places Indian ,Chinese, fish n chips , Italian , plus regular restaurants and pub grub. It's a favourite of ours as we usually stop off at Moffat on our way further north. Another good thing is its got lots of bars and some restaurants , that are dog friendly to well behaved dogs. So if we have an early tea , we like to take buster.
We also like Hawes for the same reasons.

Would recommend the CC site at Melrose, well run, on the edge of the town. Nice walks on the banks of the river to Abbotsford
