Well we arrived home last night at about 10pmish and thought I would just say thanks and add a little review.
Thanks to Rory for giving us the low down on the event and what was needed to survive it.
On our arrival we sadly had to camp away from the funsters as we needed some grass to errect a tent that the kids had said they wanted to sleep in. We were a bit harrassed on the friday after a torture journey through Notts and a child whom had a little to much too say for himself. So on the friday I could only think what a waste our money was.

On Saturday though our mood changed. The kids had become happy and Nikki and I elected to attempt to improve our Jive, so accompanied by a few other funsters off we went to do some jive dancing. Wow, great instruction, great atmosphere and a great laugh. Nikki got dressed in her rockerbilly gear that she had not worn since her teens and off we went. We danced, we listened to music we were in awe of the fantastic cars, bikes and trucks that people must of spent hours in preparing for the show, they all deserve a medal.
Looking at some of the fifties cars really made Nikki and I have a great day.
Sadly the weather changed a little late afternoon and the wet stuff attempted to spoil the day a bit. Nikki and I however, managed to just enjoy the music whilst getting wet through.
On Sunday we awoke to glorious sunshine, if not a little windy.. We then went off to finalise our Jive dancing accompanied by Rory and Jan and Mark and Linda. Once again great tuition and if you live in Ilkley go and see the Ilkely Jivers to get some lessons of this smart lady whom had me laughing all the way through.
After Jive we headed off for more music and more fun and another look around some of the cars. we were tempted by the odd buick for sale but one hobby is enough for us at the moment. We were lucky then to go off and watch the Jets before going off to see the band I was looking forward to seeing most!! MATCHBOX.
Excelent stuff, Road runner John and Jock came out to sit with the other fusters that were out rory and Jan and Mark and Linda. and together we sang through it and had a great afternoon sat in the sun. Sadly I was unable to stay and watch Alvin Stardust as I had to get home to get the kids to bed.

After my initial reservations, mainly due to the cost, I can honestly say Nikki and I and the Kids and the Dog had an absoloute ball. So much so I am now being dragged about to otehr Jive lessons and am looking for a PT Cruiser for Nikki,.

So thanks all that went, and a special thanks to Patrick for the air bed (the kids loved it) and to Rory and Jan for your hospitality, and Of course the usual crew.
See you in a couple of weeks for some fishing.

Thanks Paul & Nikki we really enjoyed your company especially at the jive lessons particularly enjoyed Mark doing heel & toe:ROFLMAO: Wasn't Sunday a great day the music was fantastic especially Pete Donegan and Matchbox I didn't think old Alvin could follow that but he did and he brought the house down what a pro, such shame you had to leave. We arrived home at 1 o clock Sunday night feeling shattered but happy and so glad we stayed until the end and I was a bit sunburnt as well:Eeek:

See you soon Rory & Jan

We to had a great weekend at Americana, our thanks to Ror & Jan for hosting the meet, and to all the other Funsters for making it a great meet. Can't say any more than that which Paul and Ror have already said. Peter Donegan, Matchbox and Alvin Stardust all in one afternoon, fantastic show, well worth the admission price on their own. By 11am this morning the Funsters had all departed and the showground was looking deserted. We are now at Rivendale Campsite up in the Derbyshire dales,it looks like a very nice site, but it has started to rain. I guess we will just have to sit inside the van singing all of the rock n roll classics we heard over the weekend and start counting down to Americans 2010.

we got home yesterday, the weather (apart from sat night) was kinder than last year, thanks to rory & Jan for orgainising this meet,::bigsmile: we enjoyed it to some extent but not as much as previous visits dont know why really (nothing to do with Rory and Jan organising honest) but enjoyed it none the less and 2 pairs of leather boots for £14.00:thumb: so glad that the haganaps thought it was money well spent:ROFLMAO: however just to forwarn you all I heard a whisper that next year the prices are going even higher:Eeek: but that it will be over 4 days. However we will be giving it a miss next year. But the memories will remain.

Americana

Hi,
we got back this afternoon, agree with most of the previous comments but everyone in our group thinks that it is an expensive weekend already, we all go on the thursday and leave on the monday, two adults in a van costs £180 for 4 nights camping and three days entertainment:Eeek:, if they increase this next year none of us will go (four units) and I think a lot of other people will feel the same, we have been regulars for 5 years. If you have young kids the price looks better but some of the venues were packed solid, some of the toilets stank from day one, emptying facilities are primitive and rubbish bins are like gold dust, however we enjoyed ourselves and it's been the high spot of the year for some time so lets hope it doesn't get spoiled.
Regards,
Chris.
( Slightly hung over, slightly shattered::bigsmile:)
PS Imelda May was great, imho should have been on instead of Alvin.

Ted & Pam really nice to meet you.

It was a big meet with the show so not so friendly as ordinary meets as people always going somewhere or other so no time to chin wag and chill.

I hope you will come to meets in the future.

Dads out of hospital now:Smile:

Hi all,

Thanks to Rory & Jan for organising this one again. It's a shame that Rita had to leave on Sunday, as that was the best day, for the reasons mentioned above, and the weather was brilliant too.

Thanks again, :thumb:

We got home at 9:30 after deciding that Alvin wasn't really for us. Sorry guys I know you all thought he was brilliant but Matchbox were so good Alvin's music just didn't do it for us after that.

Thanks to Rory and Jan for hosting the meet a good job was done yet again. It was great to catch up and I'm really sorry we won't be seeing you at the Scunny meet in a couple of weeks.

It was great meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Hope it's not too long before we meet up again.

As for next year's Americana, we won't be joining in again either. Done it twice, glad we did it but don't want to do a third. I think for the sort of money you pay, I would prefer to spend it on a nice site probably down south somewhere over a full week period.:winky:

How much does it cost to go to a concert for one evening say? I know these acts are not Madonna, or the Rolling Stones but there was a few days music from morning till night.

I thought the camping conditions were not bad, certainly been to worse.

I loved it and cross with myself for not getting into the music side of things before Sunday but had worries at home.

I will definitely go again although it clear others don't see it this way.

Big thanks again to Rory for introducing me to Americana:thumb:

I was suprised to hear that Owlgirl was snubbed when she tried to say hello to some of the Funsters at the Americana meet
I don't think that its the norm for us guys we're supposed to be the " friendly fun" crowd what happened ?

Hi Tony,

I was thinking the same too. Who is Owlgirl? Did she/they come over to chat? I don't remember being introduced to anyone quoting that forum name.

So, for our part (Rita and I that is), sorry Owlgirl if you felt left out, but there are some who like to socialise, and others who don't, as some like to do their own thing.
Hopefully you'll join us again, make yourself known to us, and receive a warm welcome.

Best regards,

Jock & Rita.

Yes Roger and I came over and other than Tony (who I have thanked) he was a gem not only was he helpful but also very friendly and made me feel a little more relaxed. Other than Tony no one seemed to be bothered even when I said hello, just looked then carried on talking to each other.

A gentleman came with a list of people on the meet which was kind of him as we were looking for someone who we had never met before.

I am always a little afraid of approaching people in a group who know each other as I always feel as if I may be intruding so once I say hello and no one replies then obviously I back away.

No hard feelings as far as we are concerned, we are new to this game and perhaps don't push ourselves forward as much as we should.

Hope you all had a good time at the Americana and hope to see you at Pickering:thumb:

After my initial reservations, mainly due to the cost, I can honestly say Nikki and I and the Kids and the Dog had an absoloute ball.

Glad to see you all had a good time and especially glad that Tara went along too, I'm sure the kids loved her being there.
