What words can discribe this icon.:D:D:D:D:D

I'm not sure there are any... We live a stones throw from Throckmorton a airfield. We watched the Vulcan in the display this year but from our garden. It was........ Well quite humbling !! When the pilot flew right over the house and pulled up the noise was incredible and we will never forget it.

A true triumph of Brittish engineering at its very very best !

I saw it when its was doing the rounds for the anniversary. It flew over Staverton airport as Dowty Aerospace is just down the road.

I was disappointed the pilot didn't do a full on low pass :)

It stank of aviation fuel :)

I remember seeing on my way up North to a funeral 4 of these incredible machines in a line on the tarmac waiting to be scrapped and then the Falklands beckoned.

What a fabulous send off she got!
Saw her display over Douglas Harbour during TT week, unforgettable.
We must all remember also the brave souls who lived and died working on them.
Have to say there was a little water in my brandy last night.

Planes like this should be kept flying funded by the Government.
One of every British type which was flown by the RAF. as a mark to Britsh Engineering at its best.
The only exception to this would be Concorde, which put two fingers up to the Americans.
It's better spending tax payers money this way than the mad cap unaudited accounts of overseas aide.

Unfortunately the last time we saw the Vulcan was when it made a somber slow fly past in the wake of the Shoreham Air Show crash.

Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
I was at Prestwick this year to watch the drama unfold over the nose wheel that didn't descend properly & I was very grateful to see this wonderful iconic aircraft land safely.

We used to get regular visits from Starfighter's in the 60s & the scream from the engines made my hair stand on end. I was belted often at school for gazing out the window at these wonderful aircraft. Explains a lot really lol.

About the Vulcan's part in the Falklands conflict. I would imagine 'Risk Assessment' would come into play if it were to be repeated today!!
They talked about that last night and the difficulties of refuelling in the air. Only the co-pilot had ever seen it done, he said it was like 'threading a piece of spaghetti up a cats bum' what a fantastic line!

Thank you, ordered. In my mind it was something like 6 missions and they managed just one hole in the runway which was easily patched, it will be interesting to read this.

"So as a career, what did you achieve in 40 years service Mr Vulcan ?"
"Well I made one hole in a runway. It was a very nice hole, covered nearly half the runway."
"Thank you Mr Vulcan, don't call us, we'll call you".

Details details....
It did enough just existing in the minds of our potential enemies.
I remember in Germany in the 60's being told that if the Russians decide to attack, the best we can hope for is to "trip them up" long enough to allow our forces families reach the channel ports to catch ferries back to the UK....
20 minutes we could have could have lasted in any meaningful numbers..
Chilling !!!
PS. Loved the Vulcan....
