Now this is a first. As we are presently 'motor-homeless' we still feel the need for some winter sunshine. Have you any recommendations where we can rent a 2 or 3 bed anything from mid Jan to mid March 2016? Costa del Sol / Cadiz regions would be nice.

Thanks,

Craig

Prior to getting our MH we did this most winters from 2004. We had the same doubts as yourselves so what we did was to book the cheapest possible package holiday to the area we wanted (or even just a flight) and then hired a car and had a look at a list of properties created from the various rental sites inc EBAY. Had a drive round for a week to see what we liked. Its amazing how you change your mind when you see them in the flesh. We settled on a villa out in the campo between Ronda & Gibraltar which was advertised at £900 per week high season but got it for £21 per night for long lets in the winter. Unfortunately this villa has now been sold so no longer available.
As said by GW above use Google Earth & Street View to sort the wheat from the chaff

I would be keen to spend more time around Nerja - it seemed to have a lot more going on for itself than other towns along the CdS.

Many Spanish houses are poorly insulated, with cold tile floors and inadequate heating. For winter occupation ensure the property is south facing

Spain is a cold country with a warm sun!

Book a couple of nights for your arrival and then have a look whilst your there. We have just done 3 weeks touring Corfu and the Greek mainland and did not book anything but the car hire until we arrived...BUSBY..

If you were interested in the northern Costa Blanca around the Moraira area - which has a pretty good winter scene and climate, these are a couple of British-run local companies offering good value off-season villa rental that we've used successfully.

I imagine there might be scope for further negotiation for a longer stay.

But, as already mentioned by others, the nights can be cold when the sun has gone down and - unless modern build - villas are typically reasonably spacious but not well insulated so heating costs can be a tad high.

We are renting a one bedroon apartment on a secure complex in Mojacar Playa from Jan 10th for one month for £350 plus £45 for bills, electric etc, plus an optional €30 for one months Wifi.
We do not usually stay in one place so long, so this is a toe in the water excercise to see how we get on.

Will you be driving your motorhome or car down there, flying down and a car rental or just flying down?

don't make a noise or play domino's late at night,or walk about in the apartment in high heels late at night, or play music as the Mayoress has banned all those activities on pain of large fines.

Flying down , we have got to fly into Murcia instead of Almeria due to flight availability and our location, renting a car at the airport for the month, the property is being rented through Owners Direct.

Same here. Flying into Alicante and renting in Torre La Mata for a week, then later in the year will do the same into Malaga - both from Southend. Just really sussing out the right location for a 2/3 months stay in 2017 winter.
For 2016 winter I'll just have to put up with some more time in Cape Town - drat! :)

That's a long drive - about 4 hours from alicante to TDM!
TDM is great - a proper Spanish 'resort' - very very different to Beni!
They still close for siesta (shops) and try getting a meal between about 3 and 6!!!
That said - I love it there - always something going on - but you'll need some language! Full English breakfast and pints of Tetleys it ain't !!!

Sorry - the Torre I'm referring to is Torre La Mata, just north of Torrevieja, about 40 miles from Alicante airport.(y)
Maybe take a look at TDM on our second trip.
