Easylifter (1 Viewer)

I have an easylifter, hydraulic one. I intend to carry a scooter on it, so am looking for advice on the best way to secure it. I'm using ratchet straps but it there a best practice on how it's done?

We have a easy lifter. Towed around 6000miles with a Vespa 300gts on it

I use a proper handle bar tie down strap and extra straps on both front and rear wheels

It can't move backwards or forwards and the handle bar strap stops it moving side to side

Not had a problem yet.

Bar straps is the way to go for sure, i usually do the side rail at the back each side as well (4 straps in total) and a chain around the front wheel to stop it moving backwards. I have some padding on the straps for the rails to stop it marking the bike.

Never had an issue yet

What do you attach them to ...end to end? As there's nothing on the easylifter. ..no eye or anything.

I have eyes at front and back which easylifter do you have with or without wheels?

Same here, i attach mine to the points where the rails attach. So i have 1 rail at the front and 1 at the back.

Not sure which version you have but if it is within the last year i would of thought yours would be the same.

Ah sorry I have the hydratrail, i am assuming yours is this one Here
If so there are some eyelets near back and front tyres if the pics are anything to go by.

Yes saw that and good idea but mine hasn't got those. ..must be an older one. Mine came with the motorhome.

Far better than threaded rod bent over is to use exhaust clamps u-bolts
Go to exhaust centre and but the clamps
Take clamps to local bolt stockist ( yellow pages ) and buy extra nuts
Drill the two holes per bracket
Discard the clamp part and use just the U bolt part of clamps
Fit U bolts using one nut above and one under the plate/bar/whatever

I would also advise when fitting the U bolts to attach the ratchett straps so that they are permanently connected i.e. there is no way they could work loose and the strap come off. I also bought some seat belt shoulder protectors which fit round the strapping and protect the paintwork.

what about passing the hooks underneath and linking them together.

The most secure way is to have a ratchet strap to the frame above each shock absorber on the rear, and on the front to the frame or yoke by each front fork, then ratchet it down so the suspension is compressed, then apply the over seat clamp firmly, if you use the handle bar straps and do them up too tight, you'll bend the bars on a scoot, finally, check the nose weight of your towball and take into account the weight of the rack, before you choosing your scooter

cheers, I'll look at what I can do to achieve that. Done the weight bit and looks ok on paper & calcs, although I will be chucking it over a weighbridge again to check.
