Hi fellow funsters. I see the rate is about as good as it has been all year and decided to get me some Euros in readiness for 2016.

I have used pre-paid cards in the past but the one I used doesn't rank as high as some in the exchange rate charts.

Caxton do rate quite high but I've read of occasional problems with their customer service in the past on this forum, so I would really like some sound advice please.

Which route do you go down and why, by the way we're talking several 000,s here so the best rates should apply.

I thought the same as you Griff when I looked at the rates, so I bought a lump of cash for day to day things., I use Fairfx for cash but undecided on which card to go for so will watch this thread with interest.

Have used the post office card in the past - not bad and you can top up whilst abroad using your mobile.

Used caxton card all over Europe, never had a problem with the card and always had excellent service from Caxton customer care whenever we have had to contact them.

No charges, stuck a few bob on recently for our next trip, got ust under 138 with the last lot, 137 the one before, a few cents under Techo's rate but we feel safer with an establised outfit.

Also loaded a few bob on the Halifax CC as a backup.

I've been using Caxton for about 5 years. Had both the Euro and the Global cards and now have the combined Master Card.
Have had 2 occasions to contact customer services (to move money between cards) - phone answered instantly and transaction completed quickly and without any hitches. Have used both on-line top ups and cell phone top ups - always worked perfectly.
It works for me and I travel extensively.
