We have an old Metro and when we are away for 2/3 months I just disconnect the battery and its worked fine on return.

We are thinking of buying a new Yaris. As modern cars are more electronic what do you do with them when you are away?

The car is stored in a good dry and ventilated garage.

Thanks John

I'm an oldbie MH number 9
personally, nothing.

Yes new cars do drain minimally out the battery for the ECU. But the Yaris to my knowlege wont have a battery draining alarm fitted, just the normal modern day imobiliser. As modern day cars have improved so have modern day batteries.

If you are that concerned you could always buy a trickle charger. I used to use one on my motorbike through winter because the alarm was a real drainer.:thumb:

The Yaris is an excellent choice of car by the way:thumb:

Hi John.

I have a Yaris Verso it is now about 9 years old, we do not bother to do anything, always been OK when left.:thumb:

In fact most of our family have Toyota's we all swear by them ,not at them.
I used an Avensis for cabbing for 2 years never let me down.

if it is a real concern for you then you could buy a small dashboard solar panel either clipped to the battery or plugged into the fag-lighter if its not ignition controlled.

should put back what the immob and radio memory take out:thumb:

Garage is underground so no access to sun and no electric points.

Probably worrying over nothing.

Thanks John

Even a small trickle charger might be to much on a continual basis, when I am away I use a timing switch set to 10 mins per day, that feeds a 1 amp charger and I keep 150 amp of batteries in good condition without the risk of drying or gassing the cells, but I am away for 8 months not 2 or 3.

Thanks all for your posts. We ordered the Yaris a 1.4 diesel, this morning and as it wont be delivered till mid/late September I dont need to worry this time as we go to France mid August back mid Oct. And at least its not been standing in a field for months on end.
