hi everyone

I am in the process of locating a place for us to share our New Year together.

I appear to be coming up with a slight problem.

The site that I had in mind can accomodate 15 pitches with hook ups and are putting on a free barbeque on NYE. Unfortunately there is no pub or restaurant on site so we would be left to our own devices the rest of the time. As it is a camping and caravan club site they would not obviously welcome any idea of a gazebo going up either so that we can make our own entertainment, but considering the time of the year I don't think it would be an option anyway.

I emailed roughly about 50 pub/restaurant sites last night asking if they can accomodate us and I have just received the first 2 replies. They can accomodate us with food, drink etc but no hook ups. One actually has 6 hook ups so may be we could use splitters as their hook ups are 16 amp supply.

So what is more important?

The pub/restaurant with no hook ups
or
Hook ups and no pub/restaurant.

Seriously my personal choice soley for ease of socialising would be a pub without hook ups we are a freindly bunch and have enough generators between us to supply the national grid, so anyone who is short on battery power only has to shout up and we can run cables and charge two or three motorhomes at once:thumb:
Come on boys and girls voice your opinions NOW. Pammy will be booking very very soon New Year is just around the corner:Cool:
Geo
PS I will be there no matter where!!!

Hi Pammy,
The site we are using for the Bring and Buy sale has both Hook ups, a pub, a hall which can be used for functions and beer.
There is also a very posh resteraunt accross the road,

Might be worth a try but obviously the location might be a problem to those in the South,
But in answer to your question would be a pub with no hook up. Most have gennys and those that dont can always have a splitter put on and share.

However having said all this, I have never managed to attend a newyears meet due to the thing they call work so please ignore all my comments :ROFLMAO:

Winter meets, or meets in bad weather, can suffer if there is not a central meeting place. When the sun is shining it does not matter as the group just congregates outside.

Some/most clubs at Stratford last weekend had a terrible rally because they did not get to see each other. They were all hiding from the weather in their vans and did not get to socialise. The marquee makes a big difference, if you choose to socialise it is there as a focal point.

Larger gatherings in the winter will suffer without a room or warm marquee. Just ten motorhomes and there might be 30/40 odd funsters to get-together. Somewhere with a pub or a barn would be my ideal. IMO cold and wet winter meets, without a meeting place might just become a gathering of little cliques in separate motorhomes and people might get left out.

Ive been wanting too use my genny for ages but am afraid of the abuse that I may get hurled at me.

Seriousley though meets are for people getting together and socialising and I cant see that happening given the circumstance ie cold, wet, frosty, muddy etc etc so I would go for the genny.

Power?

What types of motorhomes does everyone have? :helptitanic:

We have ducted air central heating that 'kills' the leisure battery if we run it for any length of time BUT we also have a gas fire that makes the van too warm at times. AND We camp out in Scotland most Christmases and New Years at a reletive's house. (I know we have the house to go in to but I class that as a disadvantage as it is 'living' in the van that keeps it warm.)

As for power. We only run 1 x 110ah battery and find we can watch TV over 2 nights before charging.

AND how easy is it to turn the engine over to re-charge the battery?

I would class a central meeting place as a MUST.

Why not try one of the senior schools?.... Hard standing carparks, a hall for the 'get together' possibly a kitchen for catering, Internet cafe might be available.

Stay away from Bradford Academy it's already booked for our group. (AND We've got ALL the above)

If you'd like to join us in Bradford PM me and I'll give you the details.

We are new to this site and to motorhomes, just converted from tugging. Very interested in the possibility of meeting you all at a New Year meet. In answer to your question....go for the pub/covered meeting place, assuming there is a meal/celebration opportunity....we're in!

Hi
We would vote for pub/room no hookup, as stated many of us have access to gennies so between us could keep everyone going.

thanks Guys, very interesting comments which is what I half expected although when I was talking to someone on the phone last night they were the opposite.

Keep em coming - bear in mind that the new Year meet may last from December 28th - January 2nd. You will need to ensure you have enough fuel on board to run the gennies.

Looks like the pub/restaurant wins so far. I have found a really nice site in Staffordshire with a great menu - the only problem here is that it is Caravan Club members only - although I may be able to persuade them as it will be good for business. Having said that, all is not lost if this is a no go.

As far as I know Bryan rang this one today and has been told that the boss will not be in until Friday so it may be a possibility.

we would love to go to a new years meet,
never went to the ones another club we were in ran for some reason, they always had a great time,

where ever it is it needs to have some sort of function room for us all to gather in, as others have pointed out, this type of meet is about being with friends together,
no use everyone sitting in their vans as couples, that'd be like any campsite where you see people who never leave the van, and wonder why they pay 15 quid a night so do exactly the same as they do at home.

we couldent care less where it is, will travel almost anywhere as long as the meet is long enough to justify a long trip,

lets have one up in scotland where we'll all be parked in the snow to make it extra special, a pub at the bottom of the hill, everyone bring a pair of skis or a sledge, and someone with a winch on their van stays behind to haul them up again when they are drunk enough,::bigsmile: there's a lovely camp site in aviemore i went to once :thumb:

Hi Pammy
A pub or meeting place is a must at that time of year, having said that we'll always have a good time with Funsters :thumb::thumb:
