A Woosh bang
very useful.. I used it yesterday for the Hymer.. and it showed an MOT fail the month before I purchased, and a retest PASS the same month..

For several years before that it did hardly any miles.. which corroborates the dealers story that the previous owner had been ill for sometime and hardly used it, but had it serviced and MOTed each year at Becks.

Only one other fail in the history when it required an exhaust pipe hanger..

Makes it easy for the insurance companies to see how many miles a year you are doing.

No, actually it doesn't at all
It makes it easy for someone to see how many miles the vehicle has done, but not how many miles YOU have used it for.

My son shares his van with one of his sons.. Last year #1 son did maybe 3000 miles in it.. #8 grandchild did about the same
Both have their own insurances and both covered for up to 5000 miles

@Jaws, My motorhome is insured with me as the only driver and every time I renew they ask how many miles a year I do. With this they can check if I am telling porkies (which I don't) and if I do exceed my estimate will they increase my premium or tell me I am not insured if I have an accident.

Yeh, and I bet the insurance companies will give you a refund/discount if you haven't covered the insured mileage.:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Interestingly though it doesn't show the first year of an import ,when it is mot'd on the vin number ,or at least on mine it doesn't.
Not many miles in first year anyway .and a straight pass.(y)
Also on the new mot cert no last years milage recorded.and dvla re-issued doc with the present reg :)

Just checked up on my old van and it's only done about 1000 miles a year since we sold it.

I thought our current mileage of c3000 a year was low.

The system obviously doesn't check the mileage makes sense though! I've just checked on a MH we used to own - FE51 PEO - and the mileage is as follows:

March 2012: 30,240 miles
May 2013: 32,453 miles = 2213
July 2014: 35,276 miles = 2823
August 2015: 36,480 miles = 1204 (the figure entered on the website is actually 3,648)

Don't know why the MOT date keeps changing unless its been taken off the road but the actual mileage is just below average for a couple of the years.

Another one of ours: FN03 CUX:

Sept 2012: 36,623 = 2,100
March 2014: 37,568 = 945
March 2015: 39,364 = 1,796

Very low usage!

As is mine as is the van I mentioned.. But two different people can both have their OWN insurance policy running
If I lend my motorhome to someone who gets their own insurance on it, and they do a round trip of Europe in it, the mileage the van has traveled will far exceed the mileage I have done in it ! ( Not that I would lend someone our van !!!! )

Interesting, coming up 10 years old ours had one fail before we bought it, rear brake binding.

The other interesting bit is that they record the Km,s as miles so be careful if you are using this to check a history prior to purchase.

How accurate is the information on the website.
I looked up the info for a Renault Master and it appears to have travelled 26,000 miles in 2 days and that was after failing an MOT.

Mine has failed every year since records began

It has cost me an absolute fortune to keep it on the road each year.

I have put my private plate number in and it is coming up on my 2006 Fiat Kon Tiki which I sold in 2011 on the original reg number. If I put this number in it comes as not found. I know it is tax and MOT under the original reg number as I have checked. The private plate has been on two new motorhomes since March 2012. Something not quite right I think.

Interesting reading, my MH had a long list of advisories on its failed MOT a month before I bought it, none show on the pass certificate once the failures had been rectified, I know one of them was fixed but no idea if the others were, previous advisories have stayed on the pass certificate after failure rectifications so it seems advisories only come off a pass certificate either when fixed or when MOT'd at a less scruprilous testing station.

have you entered the correct chassis manufacturer?-try some permutations

It's an Autotrail Apache on a fiat 2.8 chassi reg no FN54 EPL
But I get nothing when entering details !
On the plus side does that mean I don't need to waste time and money on a MOT ?

As I said the mileage doesn't appear to have any check against it, it's just a dumb field that the MOT station enters the info into ... I assume they put the wrong info in on one of the dates' entries ... either that or they were trying to turn the clock back and went the wrong way!
