Am I the only one who did not know which diesel to put in my van? At the last stop in Spain I ended up putting the top price diesel in but at an earlier fill-up, I put in "Gasoil B" not knowing the difference from "Gasoil A". It turns out that "Gasoil B" is tax free and for industry and agriculture. I filled up with 'red' diesel. I hope that I never get dipped over here, for it would not be easy to prove my ignorance.

Amazing that you managed to do it ? Around here the pumps not only have to be turned on ,but many are padlocked so you can't fill yourself.

Keep all/any receipts you've got and any evidence of your mistake. Red diesel contains a dye that is virtually impossible to remove completely from the fuel system and can be spotted if ever you are subjected to a diesel check in the UK in the future.

Is the red dye the same all over Europe if you can show that yours is Spanish dye you should be ok , surely, customs and excise won't have any interest in Spain.
Must say I'm amazed that you managed to put the wrong one in , they are usually well away from the other pumps, did they charge you full price because there are two grades of diesel at some pumps that are both road legal.

Prosecutions and tank dipping's are few and far between un less he get's caught cherry read a doubts he will get more than a warning for any traces of marker in his fuel.
After all who is to say it wasn't cross contamination only time that I have known of a prosecution is a tank full of read and dipped at there door.
If I was the OP the last thing I would have done is post it on this forum to many who like getting Browne points by scaremongering.
the op all the best change your diesel filter ASAP after a few fills Frome empty and just get on with you motor homing

In many years of filling up in Spain I have never seen a Gasoil B at any of the places I have stopped at, normally it's Gasoil or the more expensive Gasoil A which I sometimes use on purpose.

Yes! Gasoil "B" is around 20c cheaper. The two pumps were side by side and clearly labelled, I paid around 80c a litre instead of €1.04. I did see other pumps with the same identification "A" and "B" I think we were in Galicia (N.Spain) at the time.

I was told B is for commercial vehicles ( like lorries etc )
I have filled up a few times when I can with it, but it is usually agency card only..

Oh well.. That was in the Miller and now it is someone elses problem !
That poor thing had just about every kinda fuel you can think of in it at some time.. Even straight untreated ( but filtered ) chip oil !
In fact thinking back, some twonk in a garage in France started to put petrol in it.. He got a couple of gallons in before I stopped him.. Still seemed to run fine even after that !!!!
