Navigation Software on your GPS mobile phone (1 Viewer)

Hi,

Have any of you used navigation software on your Nokia mobile phones, I know that I can subscribe to Nokia maps and can download Google maps, but both of them appear to require a Internet connection to work fully, or have annual costs involved

Have any of you used CoPilot 7 or Garmin XT mobile or TomTom on your GPS enabled mobiles and if you have how did they perform

I have TT5 on my HTC mobile. It just works - a treat.

I've never bothered with TT6 but my maps are a bit out of date.

There is a specific version for the Windows Mobile phones which is not the same on used on the dedicated handheld devices. I use Tomton version 6 on my WM6 phone.

Doesn't look like they do a Nokia version though, however I have seen mentioned a version for the N90.

No. TT5 is a program sold for Pocket PC devices, be they phones or PDAs. Current is TT6 but on their web site is TT7 which it implies is only available preloaded on a suitable phone. Presumably this means the phone maker does the adaptation rather than TT doing the work. There are few non phone PDAs available any more.

There are a few programs similar to TT that you can buy for PPC devices.

Ha - I didn't spot that when I looked the other day because of TT email-shot.

It's nearly the price of a complete low end unit.

It is indeed nearly the same, so not cheap.

I guess its one less device to have to transport. I find its as convenient when you are away from the car and just need to look up somewhere. Not likely you will have the separate unit with you.

You are less likely to leave it in the car to get nicked as well.

I run TT7 on my XDA Orbit but it does have it's limitations. Too many POI's cause it to slow down. Nokia use the Symbian OS and as yet ( as far as I am aware ) TT7 will not run on Symbian.

PS I'm waiting patiently for TT to run on my iPhone.

Exactly where I was some years ago - early PDA with contacts, early mobile, early GPS without maps. I rattled as I walked to the car. Or one had a flat battery or I forgot one.

Now just one gadget to carry and it does more than the above 3.
