When I fill up the freshwater tank it overflows (pours out from underneath). When I have a look under the van I cannot see anything other than what looks like a vent. Is it normal for it to overflow out this vent to such extent when filling the freshwater tank.

Thanks

John

could be an overflow . but it sounds as if the breather valve is letting water out .
mine as done it almost since new .
i fill till i see the first drip then stop.
i do use a watering can usually so its easier to stop.
with a hose it can waste a fair bit .

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Does it leak out all the time you are filling or only when its full?
Most have an overflow of some sort, some on top of the tank, some on the filler hose.

Yes, mine also overflows from a pipe under the van..

it can be very embarrassing on an aire when it's flowing down the tarmac to next door

When filling, I now watch or get Jan to watch the tank level gauge (which is quite accurate) ..
when it shows full.. turn off water.. no overflow.

From November 2013
First time we did that we were on a site in the Highlands.
"Listen, you can hear water running - there must be a brook close by!"
Hmm, yes, VERY close by!:rolleyes::LOL:

That's how I know when ours is full. :whistle2:

Must be wonderful to have an accurate gauge.
As soon as I start filling ours, even from empty, the gauge shows full. :Eeek:

The overflow should be a plastic/rubber pipe sticking out below floor level....not a vent.

If its coming out of a floor vent you have a problem because water is flooding onto the van floor then out the vent.

mine is not rocket science.. but there is nothing to break..

it uses the KISS principal.. it has four s/s probes.. so it only shows, 0 - 25 - 50 - 75 - 100%

grey tank the same system..
.. but they get dirty and start to give erratic readings .. but easy cleaned through the top inspection hatch

Yes, ours is the same, but, there is always a but, it is an Autotrail and the tank is underslung.
The only way to get at the top of the tank is to remove it from the motorhome.

We have had ours done :swear2:

On mine, both tanks are between the double floor and both have an inspection hatch inside the van.. great design.

Living the dream.
It's not so much a vent or an overflow, it's a very clever device called a "don't flood your MoHo" system. Invented I'm sure to stop idiots like myself from filling the tank too much and allowing water to come out of the inspection hatch. ;)
