I have just had a mail from a certain company offering various services.. all of which are presented as bargains ( of course ) when in reality they are anything but
Taking two items randomly ( actually, the two that stood out like a sore thumb )
100 w solar panel installed.. Looking at the kit on offer it is pretty much the bottom of the range available.. total cost of parts approx £118.. and that is retail.. Fitted price £500 all but a few p.
Gas pressure check
A 10 to 15 minute job depending on regulator location, £35.00 and quite possibly done by someone who does not hold a current certificate of competence from Gas Safe for work on an LPG system
Reason for suspecting this is the cost of the Gas Safe course, and the fact it has to be updated regularly.. ( Darrell did the LPG related exams last year so we know exactly what the costs involved are )
Of course I can be well out of order on this....
Whilst I appreciate most if not all dealers have a staff and showroom to support, many prices quoted by many firms are damned expensive..
We are very fortunate on Fun as the most well known dealers on here use quality parts and of course labour.. ( No names no pack drill and all that, but I recently had cause to look at a van that had been fitted with a solar kit by a dealer on here, and the parts used were well up the scale in the quality stakes, plus the fitting was superb... this post is not meant to be in any way aimed at anyone associated or known on this 'ere forum )
It seems to me that as soon as the words 'Motor Home' are involved prices become the territory of the fisherman.. they get bigger with each telling !!
