6yrs ish!
Hi all.
As from the 7th September ( & a long wait ). I am now the proud owner of a 2015 pacemaker/defibralator. (Not motorhome, just in case of jokes) Although I can't drive officially for another 3wks we are planning a winter getaway. Thinking of driving down through France (mid October) to Parc Verger for a couple of weeks, then onto Spain heading south. Can any funsters give us a few tips on sites. On the coast if possible. I know quite a few funsters winter in Spain. So would welcome their input. Experience is knowledge & personal recommendations are always the best. This will be our first trip into Spain & want to get it right.
Thanks.

We stayed at Parc Verger last New Year and had a lovely BBQ on New Year's Day courtesy of the then owners Bob & Di. We thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm sure the new owners will be equally accommodating and welcoming. It's a great site!
Afterwards, we moved down into Spain and spent 10 days (we only planned on 2!) at Camping Allegria in Benicarlo. We loved it, met some great people and are meeting up again there for Christmas and New Year. After that, further down the coast and into Portugal. That bit is new to us, so we can't recommend anywhere, but I'm sure you'll get lots of info from others on here in the know!

I'd avoid Portugal until March, it's wet and cold, but a bit warmer than Scotland! Stick to southern Spain

Not this year it wasn't!:)

On a par or slightly better than the rest of Southern Spain in the Eastern Algarve but it does tend to be a little wetter on average, that's why it's nice and green:)

Don't go there just for the sun anyway and it is winter after all and nothing is guaranteed anyway.

Hi @New Dawn

It would help if you indicated what type of site and place you like..what do you expect to do each day.. how do you like spending your evenings.. ?

Are you the Benidorm type... ie you enjoy English pubs, full English breakfast café's , liquid lunches and partying ... ie typical Spanish holiday resort.. sites with entertainment.. plenty to choose from.. or do you prefer the 'quiet life' .. ie nature, walking, sight seeing, unspoiled beaches .. etc

If you like 'quiet' some resorts and sites would be hell on earth...

As hinted at by Marie, weather on the Atlantic coast can be a bit wild.. but that can have it's own attraction.. if you prefer a milder more gentle winter then the SE coast by Almeria has the sunniest and driest winter weather .. there are several good sites.. one at Roquetas that is fairly quiet, yet close to facilities, shopping etc... we spent three months here

if you want really quiet there is one on the beach at Garrofa .. Camping Garrofa..

Hi jimscotland. Basically looking at "on the beach" type sites. Not to quite, but close to shops etc, we do like to socialise with other motorhomers. Sitting out in the evening with a few glasses. I also like my sea fishing. Although I do have the restriction of not being able to walk far. Not adverse to hiring a car for getting around once on site, as motorhome is a 9 Mtr tag axle.
Cheers Bill.

Hi katv. Kim have you the details of where you stopped. Sounds interesting. You say your going back for Christmas & New year. We are trying to decide wether to go for 4 months or just 2. Obviously 4 would be better, but have to clarify with hospital appointments, Medications etc etc.
Cheers Bill.

Camping Garrofa, as recommended by ScotJimland is a great site right on the beach (an attractive cove actually) and only 2-3 miles from Almeria city centre. There is apparently a bus stop at the gate.

However, I'm not sure if a 9 mtr tag axle van could be a bit tight to negotiate the site and fit in a pitch? We're only 6 metres.

We managed to get a spot virtually on the beach (ie directly adjacent to it) which was magical.

Oh, and it's an ACSI discount location, so this year it's been €16 inc hook-up.

Roquetas is a pleasant place, but I don't know the campsite there.

Hope you have a great trip wherever you decide to stay.

Mike

Since 2007. But no more.
Camping Cabopino is very popular and close to miles of virtually deserted beach, good bus service as well. Lots of activities included in the Tariff and it is ACSI discounted.
If you plan to fish you need a permit, it's a fine and tackle confiscation, if you're caught fishing without one.

Yes, it could be tight for 9mt.. we couldn't get on with our 11mt RV ... but we have every intention of re-visiting with the Hymer.. it would be a lovely place to just chill out, do a bit of sea fishing and snorkelling..

All we could do was to look down enviously ...
