Since 1988
on clearing out cupboards prior to (hopefully) moving house, I have found my Mother-in-Law's old Singer Sewing machine.

It is a hand powered model Serial Number-: ED302988

It is in pretty good condition.

I wonder if @ScotJimland could offer any advice in this, please?(n)

I'll soon be redundant.. :LOL:

@maison
more meat to chew on

it's a ..

201K made in December 5 1944 at Kilbowie, Clydebank, Scotland.. there were 5,000 made that year.

Highly sought after by people who want a really good sewing machine.. probably the best model made by Singer

It is the model I bought to do work.. rather than collect dust.

It sews like no other Singer, the neat row of stitches look like grains of rice laid neatly end to end..

Ones in good condition with accessories fetch decent money on eBay ..

Keep it and use it.. they come in handy for all sorts of repairs and alterations (y)

Same one as my Grans old machine, Jim, but hers is in a tabletop, fold under frame, worked by a treadle.........And has cast flowers let into the frame. Lovely looking thing, has three draws as well. Must get the serial number for you, it now lives at No2 sons house in Wareham.

That looks remarkably like the one my mum had. I'm not sure when she got it - probably around 1950. I don't ever remember a time when it wasn't there. I must ask my sister if she's got it - can't think were else it would have gone, unless sister-in-law has it.
