do dealers swap? (1 Viewer)

So after getting our brilliant v line 620, we now have a dilemma. Youngest pup Boston was very poorly last Tue, she has epilepsy and had 14+ fits that day had to be admitted to Southern counties Vet hospital as an emergency, almost lost her, but she was in the right place and they saw her at her worst. They have a specialist neurologists dept, and fingers crossed she is now on the correct medication.

However this has made us realise the v line is too small should we have any repeat of this, she normally only ever had one fit in middle of night until last Tue, poor Nige has been sleeping with her in the awning since she was discharged on Friday and it's been cold at night.

Thinking if we are going to continue travelling extensively we need a bigger mh with enough room for her to be isolated as despite our best hope we now know she has a congenital brain defect so will never be cured.

So would a dealer look at taking our 4 month old v line and swapping for an older bigger motorhome without us adding any money, most likely we would loose money but as long as it's a swap for a suitable one that's the most important thing?

Cheers Lin

As Zepp says.. If there is money in it for them yes they will.
Be prepared for a BIG loss... maybe 25-30% !!!! :( 20% of VAT has gone and they will want some extra profit.
Also, watch out as it's nearly the end of the season and they wont take vans in unless it's a good deal or something they want.

Good luck..

Well contrary to the expectations above the dealer I bought mine from was so sure I'd be happy with my van - and with the fully disclosed intention of making money later when I came back later to swap up - said he'd give me the full amount I'd paid against any other van in first 12mths...
...so I guess it depends on your dealer, whether he takes a long term view, whether he wants you as a repeat customer etc etc.
You can but ask

We won't be using dealer we bought off, I just thought it might be slightly different to part ex, where generally you are buying a more expensive mh and adding money, we are looking for an option to downgrade to an older but bigger and cheaper mh, without adding any money but maybe getting some back.

Yes, it's called part exchange.
Not really we want cheaper downgrade just bigger, not adding any money. Or is this still part exchange and a regular thing dealers consider?
Wasn't sure if part ex only worked up as apposed to down?

Ahh I see what you mean. You want a part exchange with no cost to exchange. Yes you may well be able to do this, Though in this case the "cost to change" will be the hit you take on the sale of your van. Don't be surprised if they are not interested or what they offer is a lot less than you imagine your van is worth. You'd probably much better selling privately on ebay and then buying again.

A few years ago before my husband died we had an almost new Autotrail Tracker RS .....we discovered that due to his illness the layout was totally unsuitable and we needed something with two single beds ....we were very lucky in being able to change our almost new one for a van a few years old with a cash difference paid to us so it can be done if you'd find the right dealer.

Sorry but I would consider letting the dog go.

We'd never put ours through a life like that.
She is fine between fits and we were booked in to see a specialist before the episode last Tue, to try eliminate them completely, but as it turns out they saw her at her worst and although it was touch & go until Wed morning she is now back to herself and the specialist is confident the medication they have put her on will work to keep her well. We would never allow her to be in pain, but during a fit human or dog feels nothing, it's more distressing for the observer. She has a good prognosis so for now she is staying. We may look at it slightly different to others in that Nige also has brain damage and a form of epilepsy s a result of a head trauma, I didn't give up on him despite so very difficult times.

Hi Lin and Nige, I think that the Specialist seeing Boston at the worst could well be a good thing! Thinking of you all and give all the dogs a big hug from us ( OK give Nige a hug too!)
Hope we see you soon. We will deffo be up for Benicarlo again. Good luck with the van swap.

If you feel you have nothing to loose I have an semi orthodox method you can try based on current research into electronic stimulation of epileptics brains !!!
