7 years followed by a break of 11 years and then 4+ years but given up now
Had a renewal notification from the RAC today and it has more than doubled in price since last year's "special offer".

Do you have breakdown cover? Who with?

We have had our cars with the AA for over 10 years and always get an inflated renewal premium hoping that I will do, as thousands of others do and let it renew automatically.
Each year about 3 weeks before renewal is due, I go online to the AA and see what it will cost as a new customer. Then ring them up and from the menu choose 'Thinking of leaving the AA' and speak to a human. This year the renewal was £268 spoke to a human and haggled it down to £155 for two of us and relay.

Do the same with Insurance for both the cars. Always big savings on renewal quotes.

Just got our AA membership down from £189 to £70 - also had to haggle with the insurance companies - that's 2 hours of my life spent on the phone that I'll never get back - fed up of them!!

But where can you earn £64.50 an hour?
No, sorry, I've made a mistake, You'll have paid at least 20% tax on the premiums you would have paid so you've actually earned at least £77.40 per hour for the two hours you were on that phone. Well done!!!

Said it before (but never put it to the test): Nationwide FlexPlus current account! Breakdown/rescue cover provided by LV Britannia Rescue throughout Europe for MHs upto 8m/7.5t for £10pm BUT if you keep £2500 in the bank you earn approx £6pm interest (taxable).

So all of that breakdown cover for £48 pa (£60 if you are a standard rate tax payer) - Gordon

PS Did I mention that you also get worldwide family travel insurance, worldwide mobile phone cover and an extra 12m warranty on electrical good? (t&c s apply).

I believe that the small print says something like 21 days or so which is useless for most people, please correct me if I am wrong.

I cannot see that in my copy.

Getting older means that I forget things but I'm fairly sure that I had a discussion, last November I think, with one of their staff who assured me that there was no time restriction.

I used to have a Nationwide account and I am talking about euro cover and I remember reading it, it was one of the reasons why I closed the account.

Just had a quick look and it is unlimited cover but at a cost of £120 when I pay around £85 or so for Adac. L
It was the travel insurance which was useless at 31 days which is why I closed the account.

RAC arrival.

Covers ANY vehicle I'm in, owned by me or not, Driven by my or not.
No age, length, width, height or weight restrictions.
Only restriction is no work vehicles of any kind.

£80 odd this time round but you do have to be a C&CC member so another 40 odd quid for that too.

Ours is bundled in with the insurance from Comfort, so no idea, the premium was £400 odd last year, get no claims this year, so much less this time around :)

You could always extend the cover (I don't know how much it would cost). We can't get away for more than a month at a time so it's not critical for us.

I've just checked my account: I've kept between £2505 and £3016 in it last month. I earned £6.28 interest and paid £1.25 tax. That makes a total cost of just under £60 for the year - Gordon

I'm talking about assistance and recovery for our cars, not a motorhome.
I've been with the RAC for donkeys years and have never needed to call on them for assistance.
Yesterday I received their annual invitation to renew. Same cover as last year but up from £101 to £125. Cheeky sods.
I did call them and gave them the opportunity to make a sensible offer as I was thinking about leaving them. Wasted phone call.
Green Flag have taken me on, offering better cover for £88.
Stef.
