Im a newbie
I must admit I'm surprised at how many folk I see washing and polishing their MHs and caravans and tow cars on site.
We are in France and people from France seem to get stuck in. There are three UK people very close by and two of them have completely clean and spotless vans despite journeys of a few hundred miles...

So who does it ?

I followed the crowd and did ours yesterday....

Keep ours in storage so cleaning it on site has become a habit.
I've had a few raised eyebrows but just offered to lend them my brush & bucket usually sends them indoors.
Top tip - do it on an evening when the warden has finished fir the day!

newbie and learning every day
We are thinking of treating it a little like our cars, in general they are washed each time it rains ..... and by that I mean its the RAIN that does the washing not us....... however I think
If you travel down through France or Spain in winter you will want to clean it so you don't mess your clothes up getting in and out.
May well have a point and therefore suggest an amendment as follows ...... as previously stated, its the rain that does the washing but we "may" clean a little around the doors and windows to avoid excessive "dirt transfer" . We don't have the same level of salt on our roads as Blighty ...... also take into account that 'er indoors has not yet seen this posting, so my views may well change in accordance with her wishes

At the very least I do the front and back every few days, just done it today after driving in a bit of rain and a bird doing a big purple fruit juice laden 'poo' on the front.

I don't wash of sites I use Autoglym rapid detailer.

We usually find a quiet place next to a mountain stream or river, get out the eco friendly car shampoo and away we go (y)

All the water you could possibly imagine :D

On CCC weekends & temporary holiday sites, you should have a fire bucket full of water outside your unit. As soon as I fill mine I get a cloth, wet it and wash away as many flies as I can, especially if the van is facing south as the sun dries the blighters onto the bonnet.

I was under the impression that it is illegal to wash vehicles in Spain except at authorized sites, where waste water is collected and filtered before allowing it to enter the environment: sensible if you think about it?

Oh yes !!!!

Cleanliness is next to godliness in my book.;)

Then again I find cleaning and polishing very therapeutic.

Weird or what !

I seem to recall John that you could eat a meal off the floor in your motorhome.your RV was a credit to you.

Do it when in France to get rid of those massive bugs that go splat on the front of the van.

Without "given it large" Brian the Auto trail Cheiftain is heading that way:LOL:

I spent all day on Sunday under the awning getting off the mildew marks with a softish green pad and Civitas Jif !!

My back is killing me but its worth every "ache".

Same went for on top but that was a lot easier.

I'm waiting for my black streak remover to arrive tomorrow.

Travelworld had polished the motorhome but they sealed the

black streaks in !!!!:(

I need to remove the streaks and then wax the whole van.

I know people think I'm daft but its the way I like it(y)

Too old to change now.

Regards to Jo.

No, when on holiday, the only thing I do is drive and then relax. I do clean the windows and mirrors when the opacity levels prevent forward/rear vision.

When we get home, I then carve off the baked in bugs from the front of the van :D

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.
I hate cleaning the van when I'm on the road, but when I'm sitting around, the sun is shining, glass of wine on the table, cleaning doesn't seem so hard. :sneaky:

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........
Clean outside MH as and when it looks dirty, usually Sunday morning before many get up. I have always cleaned my cars on a regular basis, so MH is no different.
When back home and parked up in garage the MH gets a full valet before next trip out.

I would do if I had space for the shampoo, clay, polish, wax etc. I find it relaxing and satisfying to get it done properly and deal with rust etc. before it becomes a bigger issue.
