Since 2015.......
We are off away for a week in early September (when all the kids are back at school)
Looking for Britstops, CL's or whatever. But due to our excellent, reliable English weather.... We have chosen 3 areas that we would like to go to.
Northumberland.
West coast of Scotland
North Wales coast
Any ideas chaps :)

Northumberland we love lidalia site. It is caravan club but in a little village, with great walks and lots to do in the area. The village is very friendly and the local pub has great food, good prices.

West coast of Scotland can be great for weather in September. Oban is good, portpatrick is a lovely fishing village on the coast with good coastal walks and eateries. Easier to find wild camping spots in Scotland as britstops not so many.

Can't help with North Wales as we usually go to abersoch to be completely ripped off on prices but my sister

In Northumberland Kielder Water is beautiful but horribly expensive. We've also stayed at Dustan Hill C&CC site which is good.

Shell islands is lovely and will cost about 6.50 ech but they have no E HU.. BUT HAVE SHOWERS bars n cafe well stocked shop all at good prices but u will have to look out at what time u cross on to the island as the road floods with high tide . There are a lot of funsters there from the 5 September partying.

Don't write off the east coast of Scotland, Chanonry Point for the Dolphins, the lighthouse museum at Fraserburgh etc. You can also park on the harbour wall at Cruden Bay, we spent a couple of nights there and then went to the campsite at Portsoy. All good places and weather likely to be better even if you just keep this as a Plan B if the west coast is too damp.

There is the NC 500 ..a round trip from the East to West of Scotland.....takes in some of the most spectacular scenery Scotland has to offer.
Begins & ends in Inverness but you can change route to suit
Plenty of campsites, beaches & stop offs.

Thanks for all the replies, so it's down to the weather now to decide which part of the country we go ;) :)

When you say the west coast of Scotland don't just head to the usual tourist places come and try Dumfries and Galloway, ideal distance for just a week and some stunning scenery. I wouldn't worry about the lack of Britstops in Scotland as we have never been turned away from a pub yet.

We have stopped worrying about the weather and just make sure we take waterproofs with us. If we wait for good weather we would never go anywhere. The whole point for us of swapping the tent for a motorhome was the ability to go in any weather.

Having recently returned from 6 weeks up the west coast of Scotland( Near Lochinver) the weather must get better soon.We had 5 decent days in 6 weeks. It is glorious when it has good weather but you must dress correctly and just get on with it!
We like the Northumberland coast and the C & CC site at Dunstan Hill is great. North of Craster ( great kippers and fresh fish) Walk north to Long Newton to a great pub and a bus stop outside the camp gates with a good service.
Cheers
Bernie:)

One that we've enjoyed for each place:

Northumberland - Bellingham - nice site, CCC affiliate - forward-thinking owners - decent (small) shop, lovely country walking area, walk into village with pubs & shops
http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/northumberland/hexham/bellingham

Scotland West Coast - Scourie - weird, private site but lovely location, great for seabirds, beautiful sunsets - do not aim to fill up with fuel in the village - it has (or at least, had) the most expensive fuel in the UK - have revisited
http://www.scouriecampsitesutherland.com/

Wales North Coast - Ty Mawr Farm, Anglesey - very basic CCC CS - grass, EHU, water, black & grey waste dump, portaloo that we didn't use - a bit tight getting onto the site (we're just over 7m & just managed without any shuffling), bit of a drop onto the field from the drive, very sloping (we parked up across the field & walked with a limp...), but 10 mins walk from South Stack RSPB if that's the sort of thing you like - walks are clifftop rather than beach - we loved it & kept extending our stay!

Some britstops in the NE of scotland also and I think you can still park overnight on Aberdeen esplanade.
