Hello, A simple question, I hope, please.
The retainer for the habitation door, although replaced not too long ago, now fails to keep the door open in a mild wind.
I wondered if any one had come across a replacement catch, with a positive latching mechanism, that has the same screw centre dimensions ?
Thanks.
Barrie.

I usually ring Brownhills and ask to speak to Darren who is a font of Hymer knowledge, Peter Hambilton of Preston also is all things Hymer and possibly cheaper you could hunt on the net.
I have the same van as you it would appear and I prefer not to leave the door open on the retainer as the fridge exhausts directly onto the door like that and I am more concerned about the heat that is there, just me perhaps.

Norman.

When I had our b 584 with the same problem, I heated the retainer with a heat gun and when hot i squeezed the top and bottom closer and when it cool down it worked a treat until I sold the van.

not long enough
we have an S class of similar age, anything above a slight breeze in the wrong direction blows our door shut, we now use a bungy strap to hold door open (y)

We have the same trouble with ours but previous owner has put a different catch on a sprung loaded job with different hole centres and it still blows shut. We have a bit of string tied to the under settee and take it out of the side locker and tie it to the door handle when required. A bodge I know but it works(y)

Ok here is the cheapo (but effective) solution. Wrap a couple of layers of suitably trimmed gaffer tape round the male bit. Believe me, it really does work!

A Woosh bang
Even when new, these type of catches are weak..
When it's windy I secure the door with a bungee cord from the internal handle to the door mirror..

They are also used on the garage doors, the smaller one opens upwards.. and it has fallen on my head on more than one occasion.. so I fitted an RV baggage door catch

there are several styles..
