Derbyshire camp and walk (1 Viewer)

We are thinking about spending the weekend in Derbyshire, looking for a reasonable campsite which is close to a nice walk in the hills, nothing too hard.

Any suggestions?

I can really recommend this one. Lovely site, fabulous shower block, short walk to a good pub and great walks just by.

Castleton in the Hope Valley.

There is a CC site but it gets booked up quickly and there is a C&CC CS which we prefer. It's called Fields Farm owned by Mrs Priestley. She's quite hot on checking membership so don't forget your card.

Easy access if you're walking to Lady Bower and the surrounding hills and when you get back Castleton has loads of pubs that do decent food

"nothing too hard" Amateurs eh ! Castleton, campsite on the main road heading in/out of the village, a nice flat walk from the site into town where there's lots of walks

Fields Farm

Have a look at Rivendale Caravan Park on the A515 if you want a flat walking route.
It's about 100 metres from the High Peak Trail, which follows the old railway line in both directions for miles and miles, and is suitable for those wanting a good distance to walk and those who just require a stroll. Restaurant/ Pub on site and sheltered from the elements in an old Quarry.


Also Newhaven Caravan Park, again on the A515, close to one of the trails and 50 metres from one of the most unusual and best restaurants (Carriages) in the area. Wild camping possible at the side of the trail.


Chatsworth CC site is a decent option but expensive.


Buxton CC site is okay but requires a bit more effort when walking down to the town or up to Solomon's Temple. 'Goape Forest Adventure', is about half a mile away and may interest you as you swing on the Tree top adventure wires, ride a Sedgeway or go Zip Trekking – but perhaps Poole's Cavern and its vast limestone caverns is more to your sedate tastes?

Peak Cavern at Castleton is more appropriate for that devil
