Well it would be if I could find a decent UK campsite that is ON or VERY CLOSE to a beach. Might be my age but I've just got this thing about parking the old van up on the beach, light up the barbie, crack a bottle of vino, stick on a beach boys cd and chill!
Not too much to ask is it?
Any help would be very much appreciated...and even anything in France would be worth considering.

Many thanks in advance.

In the UK:

Park on the beach? Oh no, definitely not allowed.
Light a fire on the beach? What! No no no.
Glass bottles on the beach? HSA don't like that one little bit.
Drinking alcohol on the beach? Most anti social.
Playing music on the beach? Even more anti social!

Beaches are for looking at, not for enjoying yourself! :)

You can do it in Spain - and they have the weather for it. :)

Portugal too, and some beaches in the south of France allow parking and camping on the beach. Plenty of Aires in France that are next to or overlooking a beach, just get the All the Aires book and come on over

White House Beach Caravan Club Kessingland, some of the pitches are next to the beach; or Great Yarmouth may be worth a punt.....from a UK perspective.

Is this close enough?

Newgale campsite, Pembrokeshire. Big sandy beach behind the pebble bank (photo taken near high tide):

In N Wales there's Black Rock Sands, which you can drive onto, but it's not that romantic - too many knobheads doing doughnuts in Corsas and 4x4s pretending it's the Sahara.

Wherever you go just promise me you won't play The Beach Boys - it makes the sea go flat, and most surfers' toes curl when they hear it.

Stuck in Cornwall with the same problem. Can't find a decent site close to a dog friendly beach anywhere. Close here means just down that steep cliff track there. Any ideas appreciated.

Shell Island you can do all those things if you can put up with the weather, even saw Dolphins last time we were there and the sun did shine for a couple of hours.

Not too many dog friendly beaches here in Cornwall till October.

Why? Not too many Dog Owners had dogs on lead, and too few had Poo bags! So Council closed the beaches to pooch-ee-kins!

Southport beach you can do all those things too. There is a loo with showers and as long as you tidy up after yourself they have no problems, they even send a man round in the morning with bin liners in case you need them.

Boats, dogs, beach barbecues all welcome
Beautiful location, been lots. Thought I'd died and gone to heaven the first time we pitched there, just watch for the wind with your awning or canopy!

You could try the Outer Hebrides - seriously! Plenty of spots to wild it by stunning beaches there. (y)

Thanks to all for responses so far and please keep 'em coming. And special message to all who recommend Wales and/or Scotland but forgot to say in original thread that I do like a bit of 'currant bun' so that probably rules both out!

Please get your facts right p, when the councils went down this route, they stated quite clearly it was to obtain blue flage status, when they did it 30 years ago there was uproar in Cornwall that is why still over 50% of beaches allow dogs and many others are split. My question was are there any of the beaches within easy reach of campsites, as we sometimes have difficulties with cliff walks.

TeeCee the sun does shine in Wales, I have been sunburnt several times in Pembrokeshire! Newgale is a huge beach, rocks & pools one end and miles of sand, campsite isn't up to much but very popular, will be fine in a MH! The countryside is outstanding! Sol a is lovely and St Davids!

Southsea Leisure Park is right by the shore, and next to the naturist beach.
