This is the route I’ve used a couple of times. A bit cross-country but once out of Canterbury it’s virtually a straight run.

It’s not as complicated as it reads and a nice little route to load to your GPS if it can handle routes.

So, coming from the West or the North side of Dartford Crossing just pick up the M2 & A2 and head for Canterbury and the first waypoint of:

51.27001, 1.09359 – this is the turning from the A2050 in south Canterbury onto the B2068.

Then 51.26775, 1.09388 – the next B2068 check point.

Then 51.09361, 1.05031 – From the B2068 0nto the A20 after crossing over the M20.

Then 51.09507, 1.10246 – Swing back onto the opposite carriageway A20.

Then 51.09467, 1.10039 – Slip road to tunnel entrance and joining with traffic coming from M20 J11a

Maybe your smart GPS would take this route anyway!

We came back from France on Sunday and the M20 appeared to be clear. Is Op Stack suspended?

Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
According to Eurotunnel site the access from the A20 is closed for another 8 days - if they are working to time.

This is what they say:

A20 access to Folkestone terminal closed between 29th June 2015 and 15th August 2015

We are making improvements to our check-in plaza, so please note the following changes as you arrive at our Folkestone terminal:

  • Access from the A20 will be closed during this period. Please continue along the A20 and join the M20, southbound, at junction 11, then access our Folkestone terminal via M20 junction 11a.
  • As you arrive at the Folkestone terminal from junction 11a, there is a short diversion through our new Freight check-in plaza. Do not stop here. Instead, follow the signs in place and continue directly towards our Passenger check-in, which is in its usual location.

Crossed on the tunnel from Calais this morning without any issues or delays. M20 was also clear but yes there was a 2ml queue at the Dartford Crossing.

The motorway overhead signs are very good when M20 is closed and they have big signs for European targets :)

It's a standard route used by loads of people apart from when you're on the B2068 and get to J11 of the M20 you may as well take it to J11A as its only about a mile and isn't part of Op Stack. Trying to avoid that bit is needlessly over complicating things IMHO

1994 and beyond...
We went similar route last month A2- B2068 which brought us out at Junction 11A on M20 ahead of Op stack. M20 was empty at this point.the route was recommended by @scousebird :)

Worried about the return this time next week now......

Edit: yes agree with Nic above why complicate it

The newspapers have a happy knack of making us all far more worried than we need be.
Operation Stack ended nigh on a week ago now but there's barely a mention of that fact in the papers but horrific headlines when the first lorry is held on the M20.
No wonder we get to the point where we take no notice of any warnings including those we should listen to.
Rant over.:(

What people are failing to mention,is they are doing traffic control on the last 5 miles of the road to Dover, signs saying Average Speed 40 miles an hour, travelled it yesterday, had cars whizzing past me!!!! :Eeek:They are making a mint in fines,it's something like
£60 to £120 depending if you have 3 points on your licence or take a course in road safety !!!! :swear2:

Lots of locals been caught out on it!!!

My neighbour has been fined for speeding along there ... but... there are plenty of big signs saying 40mph all along the restricted route.

It amazes me,there are cameras clearly taking all numbers right along the route, starts at Hawkinge through to Dover.
When you have a lorry stuck up your bum,the temptation to speed up is awful, but I know so many people who have been caught out.:moon2: Do think people don,t realise until the fine drops throw the letter box.
So Beware!!! If any one is driving to Dover Docks from the M20,those cameras are waiting for you:Eeek:
