I see from West Sussex CC website there is a public weighbridge at lancing on the A27 (a place called Withy Patch. Supposed to be an automated set up operating 24/7. I have made several phone calls today to see if it is operational and nobody can tell me. Not even DVSA who operate the thing .
Has anybody used it or know if it is in service? I don't really want to make a wasted journey.
TIA
John.

We live a mile half from said weighbridge, 24/7 open there's not usually any operatives there SO no weight conformation tickets given! we use it at least 6-8 times a year but word of warning dont get there after 4.30pm as 'Truckies' have a habit of blocking the slip road for night parking:cool:

Yep it's always operational, use it loads of times a year only a mile from me as well, never had a problem with trucks I've used it dozens of times in the evening.
It's a drive over dynamic one I always go over 3 or 4 times and take an average as results vary with speed & position. Only accessible west bound, but easy to do a U turn at the traffic lights just past it.

Have used it plenty of times. Have paper & pencil ready. Easy instructions at the start. Big visual reading given on side of hut for each axle then a total weight shown.

We use it also - easy to use - not thought of the average readings though - normally just go over it once and note weights.

Does anyone know if the one at Handcross is back available yet? Have driven past a few times but not had chance to stop and look,

Limits are
3650
6150
1- 1850
2- 2000

Well, with a full tank of fuel and half a tank of fresh water the front was 1590 and ther rear 1760 but that was without the bikes on the back :Eeek:
I think with food, clothes and the bikes we may be over the 3500. Perhaps I should look at getting it re-plated??

Are the figures you quote at the beginning from the plate on the motorhome? In that case I suspect your motorhome already has a MGW of 3,650kg rather than 3,500. That leaves you with 300kg for all the things you didn't have on board at the weighbridge. And even then that may leave you a problem with your rear axle if most of that additional load is at the rear.

I did think about that and I can shift some stuff from under the rear bed to a front locker to distribute the weight a bit better.

Having looked further I have found another rating plate.
The first one is a Fiat

The second one(which corresponds with the V5) is Alko

Can I now safely assume my all up weight can be up to 3700kg with a maximum rear axle weight of 2000kg?

Nope, you should have a third plate.
The first one is the Fiat one when the chassis left the Fiat plant, the second one is after the Al-Ko chassis has been fitted before the converters body has been fitted, you should have a third plate fitted by the converter this is the important one, as the last plate fitted succeeds older plates.

Although the Al-ko plate is 3700kg the converter may have down rated it to 3500kg, unlikely in your case as the V5 says 3700kg, but it is a possibility.

I can't see another plate anywhere. Is there a "normal" place for the thirs plate?

Can be anywhere, looks like you have a Dethleffs, I would expect it to be on one of the side skirts, of inside footwell on one or the doors.

Not a Dethleffs, it's a Swift Bolero. I will have another search (y)

Also bear in mind that these dynamic bridges are calibrated to plus or minus 50 kgs per axle. to get the most accurate weight you need to be travelling at walking pace and avoid braking or accelerating as the axles cross the plate.

Our bolero has the swift plate on the bench seat woodwork behind the passenger seat
Thanks for that (y). That's exactly where it is and it reads the same as the Alko one:clap2: Happy days. :party2:Just got to watch the rear axle weight :Eeek:

@perterc10 I was going to the Handcross Weighbridge today but Googled it and it is no longer listed on the West Sussex list of public weighbridges and also there is a posting on a camping forum from someone who went there recently and found there is button to push anymore so its no longer public.

I think that this is the almost exact point of the Plane crash today or just before it at the caravan site.
