Born again
Our M/H insurance is due to expire at midnight 18th August. So 4 weeks before I phoned up AIB to ask when I would be getting my renewal quote - "2 weeks before renewal so you'll have to wait" I'm told by some very abrupt guy on the phone.
So Friday (11 days before expiry) and I'm reading through the small print on the insurance documents - yes, I know it's a bit late now! Oh! Look! If I don't contact them to say that I'm unhappy with the quote they will automatically renew my insurance :Eeek: don't think so!
Friday teatime I fire off an email requesting my renewal premium, and specifically refusing to have my insurance renewed without my permission. Plus asking for an email confirming my instructions had been received.
Monday afternoon and still waiting ...:swear2:
*****************
When we decided to part-ex our van I phoned up Friday morning for a quote, and Leah told me that the insuring company would have to be contacted and she would phone me back. I pottered about around the house waiting for the call and eventually phoned AIB at 17.30 (as they close at 18.00) only to get a recorded message to say that "the office is now closed" Saturday morning phoned them and got Leah again "How can I help?" and I sez "I'm still waiting for my call back" - so I got the figure to change over, but not picking up van until Tuesday so keep the figure on my file.
Tuesday comes - Jeff takes van for final test drive and fill up with fuel whilst I phone AIB to arrange the change over in insurance. Phone answered by some guy who tells me that Leah will have to handle the change over and she is busy but he will get here to phone me back. 25 minutes later and I phone them again, "hasn't she called you yet? I will make sure she calls you" Another 15 minutes later and I phone again and insist that he handles the change over and charging my debit card with the difference.
*****************
Just know that I won't be renewing with AIB even if they give me a brilliant renewal quote.

sounds rather disappointing as so many members here are now with them. makes you wonder how well they will handle any claims

Anybody in the public service sector, working or retired, might be eligible for CSMA membership and hence preferential rates through LV insurance. Collectively with MH, car, motorbike, travel and house insurance I have saved over £450 this year over "competitive" quotes and the service I have had has been excellent. Fortunately, I have not had to test their claims procedures - yet! Oh yes, the automatic renewal quote has always been the most competitive as well (today house insurance renewal for 4 bed semi in Dorset - £140.38) so I am now always insured as cheaply as possible.

I fOundAIB very competitive, but this year went with Comfort who were"comfortably" the cheapest of all I contacted (which was quite a few).
I haven't had a year yet when the incumbent insurer came up with the best quote year 2.

In the couple of claims I've been involved with over the years (not Motorhomes) the Broker has had absolutely nothing to do with the claim, that has always been handled by the insurance company. I don't know for sure, but I imagine that would be the same in this case, most of the motorhome brokers, AIB, Comfort, Safeguard etc all use the same underwriters.

On and off for many years.
AiB are our broker and you have to constantly badger them.
Our claim was dealt with directly by the insurer not AiB.

Our car has been insurered through AiB and we are still waiting for the policy document!

I am afraid that's the norm nowadays... I've even had it quoted to me that it is the "Law"....

They all do it... Just ask any insurer when getting a quote...

I have been waiting for a call back from AIB for 2 years however, no matter, as I would never buy insurance without sight of the policy document, and they refuse to provide one.

Thats just what happened to me last week. Rang them for a quote, went through all the normal stuff and he gave me the quote, (double my previous quote) I then said can you just send me a draft copy of the policy to be told that would only happen when I have given the go ahead and either set up the DD or paid up front.

Luckily i've found insurance elsewhere.

I got a quote from them for Motorhome parked on road over night £596, tried Safeguard and they wouldn't insure me because I'm unemployed but put me onto their sister company-Scenic- and they quoted £369, told them CC quote was £299 and they came back with £280 with legal cover and it's with AXA the same as CC.

I have tried them, but they won't quote me unless I have house insurance with them.
We don't have house insurance with them - maybe worth asking again
They are very good insurers, with no shareholders, so worth the effort first time round

Just what I was thinking, only last year they were the vicars knickers , everyone raving over them, now seems to be just the opposite, what I do find strange is the bloke that runs it had an account on here and posted a few times but now he seems to have gone quiet(n)

Don't forget .... even if you DO remember to tell your insurance company you are NOT renewing with them, also tell your bank not to accept any request for payment from them .... I didn't and then had to go through getting my money back from LV insurance ... bloomin pain in the butt.
