Just trying to book the above crossing and I'm given 2 options on length of van.
7 metres or 10 metres. Our van is 7.4 metres.
Difference in price is £57.
Do I book 10 metres or take a chance on 7 metres ?

Explore a different place to book, or phone. I found that some sites require your age, height of van, length, etc, while other, using the same ferry, do not require the same exact information.
Alternative use P & O.

Don't know what prices you are looking at but the tunnel probably comes more in line at that sort of extra, no extra for any length

IF your going to Dover use the A2 This afternoon there was stationary traffic from Hythe to the roundabout on the M20. at the P and O offices Un fortunately our contintental cousins were not being very generous at the tunnel exit. I t was rammed with trucks...If you are shuttle bound keep in the offside lane then force your way in when you see a gap. The non freight lanes are open if you can find them!
Good Luck.

Looked at booking DFDS, Newhaven to Dieppe for August crossing, their online booking info. gives only 2 motorhome lengths, 6.5m is the longest, but private vans can be longer.
Anyone seen this or had any problems booking longer vans.

Hi there,
I am just about to book a crossing into Dover on Aug 15th ( early morning) would I be better going with P&O from Calais or DFDS for Dunkirk. My wife is worried about the migrant hassle, I am more concerned about the lorries
I normally use the tunnel but the cost is extremely high.

Thanks
Raymond

We were held up in Calais towards the end of June for the very same reason, we managed to get a crossing via Dunkirk 24 hours later. I HAVE EVERY INTENTION OF AVOIDING CALAIS for future crossings, this crossing has been subjected to disruption too many times for me to be confident to use again.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like Dunkirk is the better option.

Have any of you stayed overnight in Dunkirk, I seem to remember someone mentioning parking in front of the office building

Thanks
Raymond

Not us Raymond, but others have done. We overnight at Gravelines on the way back, or Grand-Fort-Philippe, if Gravelines is full.

Nice frites from the chippy in the Market Place, and a nice cake shop down a back street in Gravelines. ;)
Cheap fuel at the Super U, between Gravelines and Grand-Fort-Philippe. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We have parked on the Dunkirk car park overnight, not much there, toilets and a basic shower in the Gents, will be quite noisy overnight with other vehicles moving .(Ear plugs)
It takes us a full day to get to Dover so we normally, have a meal on the ferry and park up on the ferry car park straight off the boat, ready for an early start the next morning.(y)
Cheers

The Frenchman who lives in the older Hymer used to park up broadside, on the Marina side of the Aire, taking up three spaces, but then he moved onto the grass at the side of a workshop across the road when they started charging to park.
Is he still there? Apparently, his sister works in the town council offices.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
