On our travels through Croatia and I seem to have a problem with my wipers. The intermittent does not work, I can't hear the relay clicking on and off, it just continues to wipe and then when I turn them off they seem to 'park' half way up the windscreen or at different places and not at the bottom.

I think it's the relay which may have gone as I've cleaned the contacts on the wiper motor connector.

Does anyone happen to know where the relay is located for the wipers? It's either the fuse box at the drivers side or in the engine compartment but I can't identify which is the relay for the wipers.

Cheers, David.

I cant help with where it is.
But if you can hear it can't you feel the relays till you find the one that clicks.

But I'm sure someone will know which it is before too long.

A good chance that it's a motor unit fault

I can't hear any relay clicking when on intermittent which made me think it could be the relay. When I choose intermittent it just wipes at the normal speed and all the other wiper functions work (fast speed etc) ok, apart from parking at different angles.

Anyway of testing it? The motor functions perfectly ok apart from intermittent which is controlled by a relay so I wouldn't have thought it was the motor but any tests I can do?

I know someone who had the same fault on a Peugeot
They were told "there is no relay, the wipers are controls by the BSI(computer) & it would cost £1000 for a new one"

Sounds more likely to be a microswitch that tells the motor when to stop when at the natural park position. I'd guess it's either somewhere in the motor or wiper assembly

I sincerely hope he took it to a real mechanic for a second opinion

Yes & it was confirmed so it was sold
Try googling BSI wiper fault?

Mine is working fine and no relay noises
Hi Andy, thanks for confirming no relay noise when working on intermittent so I'll continue searching, I've read maybe disconnecting the battery for 5 mins may reset it

Just been having a look and looks like I can remove the motor quite easy, although even when I push the stalk down 1 for intermittent the wiper works as if I've chosen normal speed and if I turn the stalk to increase the intermittent gap it does nothing so could point to an electrical problem

Well I finally got around to removing the wiper assembly to inspect the motor. It was quite simple to remove, first remove the wipers from their spline then undo the outer nut holding the wiper assembly to the body just below the windscreen. Then remove 2 bolts which held the whole wiper assembly, unplug the connector and after a bit of jiggling I got the assembly out:

I then removed the 6 screws which held the front plate of the motor on and removed the plate. It was obvious from what I saw that what was causing the intermittent not to work and the wipers parking at different places was the middle connector had somehow detached from the solder connector:

After cleaning them up:

So I removed the contact from the block, filed it to remove any old solder:

And re soldered it:

All put back together again and working perfectly now.

Hope this helps any fellow funster who finds their wipers don't work as they should. Apparently it's a common problem with them.

Dave.

The giveaway is not parking + no intermittent. Both rely on the parking switch in the motor as you found.
