Generally not very good... Omni directional so its looking for signals from 360 degrees, one that you can align / move /point is better...
These has been out for years, I used to sell them for trucks and later motorhomes.
Making some cash off them was the only good point :whistle:

Three options..

1. A relatively cheap directional aerial , example ..
http://www.towsure.com/maxview-mobile-touring-uhf-tv-aerial
Pros
* Cost effective
*Good reception in most areas

Cons
* has to be aligned.. takes time to set up
*not as convenient as a fixed roof aerial.

2. A Status 570 pole mounted aerial..

Pros.
* Easy to align from inside the van, with a signal amplifier and strength meter to assist
* Convenient
* Good reception in most areas

Cons
* Relatively expensive

3. Indoor set top aerial
Pros
*Cheap

Cons
* may only work in strong signal areas
*has to sit somewhere in the van.. not always convenient

Directional will always be better than omnidirectional..
