Got this tip from a tugger on site..

Rather than buy the expensive satellite tripod get one from a store that sells speaker stands

Heavy duty speaker stands from about £20 - £25

example..

G70 - Low level speaker stand

Dampered for safety / dual locking mechanism
Light strong easy to transport
Length when closed only 760mm
Weight: 3,20 kg
Height: 920mm-1380mm
Load bearing capacity: 50 kg
Tube diameter: 35mm
Maximum footprint: 720mm

With the dish and digi tuner from Maplins ... up and running for £80.. !

Or spotlights or laser levels from Aldi or Lidl, all come with great tripod, when available, at about 12.00.

Better still have a look around car boot stalls, I use an old video tripod. Maybe not quite as robust as a speaker tripod but I anchor it down with a couple of elastic straps.

After seeing an article in Practical Motorhome last year I bought a 3 arm washing airer from Wilkinsons for about £8.

The arms (which become the legs) need to be cut back by about a foot each otherwise it is too wide on the ground and I found that I needed to drill through the collar & upright to enable a pin (3 inch nail) to be inserted to prevent the wind turning the dish.

Seems to work OK.

You got hiccups Jim? :roflmto:

Bodging stuff is all part of the fun isn't it? I've got all sorts if bits & pieces in the garage (never throw anything out if it might be useful) and it's amazing how often something is useful for a job it was never intended for.

I forgot our tripod on one trip last year and used our mini airer as a temporary replacement :thumb:
