A friend of mine has just bought a 1997 Hymer A class and a lovely thing it is too but there is a connector in the gas compartment which we can't identify.
It's attached to a small cable that disappears internally.

It looks like the top part and coil from a gas solenoid valve.. valve part is missing..

maybe the previous owner had it wired to enable him to shut off the gas from inside the cab.

many many years! since I was a kid
yes gas solenoid valve actuator. if you do remove it, dont forget to seal any cable entry hole left

I would trace the cable back, and if not already done, disconnect and remove it completely.
Totally agree, in my mind having anything that is capable of causing a spark such as an electrical device in a gas compartment is plain stupid!

It looks very similar to the solenoids that was on my Carthago. They were anti freezing solenoids. Hope this helps.
