Hi,

Anyone planning to go past Loch lomond in the near future may like to know the surface is being repaired. The surface at present is very rough. Rough enough to shake the telly off the mount, throw the laptop out of the locker and generally shake the fillings loose.
Just a warning to make sure everything is battened down and go slow.

pity you hadnt posted this 8 hours earlier....

came round loch lomond heading for loch ness yesterday afternoon and yes...it's a cart track.
never shook anything lose but what a drive.:Eeek:

worth it though, for the drive through Glen Coe. :thumb:

even returning via Oban so as to miss 'the cart track' tomorrow.

the A814 from Newton stewart to Girvan is just as bad and they aint resurfacing that one.

Hope its finished soon, off to Oban end of May:Sad:

hi frankie,

we ended up coming down the bottom end of loch lomond from oban and that stretch is ok.

maybe worth you going via helensburgh and gairlochhead to inverary then on to oban rather than loch lomond.

we found two carparks in oban, both height barriered. one is approx 3 mtr and the other is approx 2 mtrs.......both as you come down the hill from the 'top' end of town, one left and one right.
the one on the right had a couple of m/h in it.

if thats the Garlieston on the wigtown peninsular then the A714 north of bargrennan to girvan is in poor condition with badly repaired potholes and loose surfaces....long, slow drive.
if you have the time then the A75 to stranraer then north on the A77 is a better bet
roads are better and good after Girvan all the way to loch lomond:thumb:

Another scenic route from Garlieston to Loch Lomond would be to take the New Galloway road through the hills and turn up to Ayr via Dalmellington. Road not as good as the coast road but shorter and very nice views.

Hi Bill

Secret Scotland.. :thumb:

SW Scotland is unspoiled and largely missed by people on their head long rush to the North .. but if we keep telling them it will soon get over run with tourists followed by tacky tourist shops selling Chinese made Highland dancers, tweeds and home made jumpers .. :roflmto:
