A few months ago we registered with HMRC for the new Marriage Tax Allowance of £1050 that was going to be implemented after the election. My B.H received an e mail last week to verify herself with the tax office which failed due to her not having a credit record ie no driving licence, credit card. Last Wednesday she contacted the tax and after supplying both our national insurance numbers they said it would be processed it in due coarse. I was expecting a long wait but surprise surprise I received it today. Now £205 better off

There is another allowance though for those born after 1935.

I got all excited for a mo'. Born after 1935, so don't qualify. I earn more than £10,600 so don't qualify!

Wingman. Its a transferable allowance. My income is greater than £10600 but my wife has an income well below £10600. Its the unused tax allowance of £1050 that has been transferred to to me. Its increased my tax code by 105 so over the tax year and paying 20% tax I receive an extra £205. Please note Its the person transferring the allowance who has to apply not the one receiving it.

Does she have to be employed, or can she transfer the allowance that is not being used as she is just on a wee pension ?
I am still working and being crucified with tax !

Moodybrook. As I understand it she can transfer the allowance if she receives a small pension. Calculate ALL her yearly income including pension and savings interest, etc and if its £1050 or more below £10600 she can transfer it. Basically any tax allowance she has spare below £10600 up to a value of £1050 can be transferred to you.
