Evening all,

I'm after a bike rack for the van, it's a PVC with twin doors at the rear.

Having reservations about the Fiamma carriers and possible door damage so we have decided to go down the tow ball mounted route.
Anyone on here use a Saffier cycle carrier and if so how is it attached to the tow ball?

Cheers

Saffier 2 Bike Carrier Towball Mounted
This is the next generation 2 bike carrier from Tradekar, it is a superb tilting four bike wheel support rack that fits all tow balls and all bikes.

Saffier 2 Bike Carrier Key features:
  • It's very quick to fit and dismount
  • The carrier is easily tilted even with the bikes on
  • The bike frame holder folds flat for ease of storage - you just need to undo two hand tensioned wheel nuts
  • It comes supplied with both the 13 pin continental socket and the UK 7 pin so no adapter is needed (The fog light will only work when the 13 pin system is used)
  • The wheel supports are fully adjustable so the carrier can take any size of bike
  • The strong quick fit / quick release polypropylene straps accommodate all wheel sizes and all frame sizes
  • We recommend that you buy a cable lock if the bikes are going to be left unattended. Pass it through all the bikes and around the carrier
  • Bike carrier weight = 14kg, max load = 60kg (please also check your tow ball nosewieght)

Full Time 2011-2013, now part timers!
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to open the van doors when the tow ball bike rack is tilted please? We don't want to have to take the bikes off as the first job every time we stop!

Thanks Jim,Pat,

I've looked at both Thule, Atera and Witter racks, all look good quality. Just never heard of Saffier racks and wondered about the quality.

Stonemags, I've got a feeling that even with tilting racks, if the bikes are on you won't be able to open the doors fully.

If you need access to the back doors then the Fiamma one would be best. If you are carrying no more than the rated load of 45kg you should be okay but just in case I have bolted the top rail of mine on .

No you won't be able to, you can only do that when they are installed on a car tow-ball with a lift up boot/tailgate.

Just to correct you ... the rated load is 35kg not 45kg ... it took me a long time to find a couple of electric bikes that were light enough (without batteries) to be able to go on the rack that came in under that weight.
