Another Bike Rack Question .... Sorry (1 Viewer)

Evening all,

I'm after a bike rack for the van, it's a PVC with twin doors at the rear.

Having reservations about the Fiamma carriers and possible door damage so we have decided to go down the tow ball mounted route.
Anyone on here use a Saffier cycle carrier and if so how is it attached to the tow ball?

Also have a look at Thule..

We had the EuroRide model.. .. excellent bit of kit.. they do several models. .

They are simply clamped onto the tow -ball.. side to side movement is minimal.. the torque on the clamp can be adjusted to suit.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to open the van doors when the tow ball bike rack is tilted please? We don't want to have to take the bikes off as the first job every time we stop!

I've looked at both Thule, Atera and Witter racks, all look good quality. Just never heard of Saffier racks and wondered about the quality.

Stonemags, I've got a feeling that even with tilting racks, if the bikes are on you won't be able to open the doors fully.

If you need access to the back doors then the Fiamma one would be best. If you are carrying no more than the rated load of 45kg you should be okay but just in case I have bolted the top rail of mine on .

No you won't be able to, you can only do that when they are installed on a car tow-ball with a lift up boot/tailgate.

Just to correct you ... the rated load is 35kg not 45kg ... it took me a long time to find a couple of electric bikes that were light enough (without batteries) to be able to go on the rack that came in under that weight.

Alters Strada for us too, carries our leccy bikes with no problems so far.

That's the one that I think Eddie (judgemental) has on his van but it is very expensive.
