There's a fiver like that on the storage site in the spot next to us. It doesn't look like it's moved in a a few years.

I've often wondered about the apparently abandoned caravans and motorhomes in storage areas, are people still paying the fees? Some of the caravans look like they would fall apart if used. There is also a boat at our storage that has to be seen to be believed, I'll get a photo next time I'm there.

A bit of TLC, and quite a lot of elbow grease would have that van in A1 condition. Be a bargain if anyone with the time could buy it! :D

Shame, the picture doesn't have a geotag, so no clue as to where it was taken.

Also, just had a thought, that personalised number, could it refer to 'Gemima the Hymer'?
Remembered it from a book I read, 'Marie Potter and the Campervan of Doom'

I wouldn't normally advocate the use of 'elbow grease' but in this case, I suspect a couple of bottles would work wonders on that algae.

If I was local, might even offer to give it a clean for them - would be good to hear the van's/owner's story and get it looking a bit more presentable....

Not uncommon to see such vehicles in specialist sales. Nearly always a sad or hard luck story with them.
I bought mine at such a sale, it's pretty elderly but in fantastic shape.
Typically with those there are problems to sort, but mine now perfect after a bit of work.
Bargains to he had.

On and off since 1983
I used to moor a boat down at Chichester Marina near a beautiful old Yacht which like your picture had been neglected for many years.

I made further enquiries and established that the owner had kept it there all paid for annually through his business but under some vague term for client entertaining. He had since died though the business continued, run by his two sons, neither of which knew that this old Hallberg Rassy existed.

There were several vessels in such a condition and I often wondered if some widow somewhere was totally unaware of their late husbands love affair with a yacht.

Off the top of my head, apart from a damn good clean, and possibly re-sealing the joints. Things that will almost certainly be needed after 5 years of not moving:
4 tyres
Wheel bearings
CV joint boots probably perished, and need replacing.
Cylinder walls are probably dry, and rusted, so I'd take the cylinder head off and replace all the gaskets
Braking components will need replacing, disks and pads all around
Inside, the gas system will need looking at, I'll bet the hoses have perished.
Oh and if one were to purchase it, you'd have to get it recovered.

With enough time on my hands I could probably have that back on the road in about 2 weeks and between £500 and £1,000 :)

Yeah,
If it were local I would go make an offer on it and establish if they are interested in selling and pending a good look have a deal.
Nothing that couldn't be sorted there, water ingress being the big issue if it had detoriated so bad.

Me too, but I have neither the time or the space for it :-(

The water ingress could be an issue, but even that can be fixed, it would just mean more time. Also I just thought, if one were going to take the engine apart, it would be a bad idea to fit a DPF to bring it up to Euro 5. I spotted it is the 2.8 litre Fiat lump, that's a cracking engine!

It's not necessarily a personalised number that is 2000 but if it was only run for ten years , at about fifty grand new it was certainly some dear holidays.

we all know that we don't buy a van to save money on holidays.. if you have, you will be disappointed

it's a lot more than that.. in fact I don't care or even count the 'cost' of ownership .. what price happiness.

As one Funster once said about his USRV.. "if I have to explain to you .. you wouldn't understand.. "

so true..

I know that, just saying to let it go like that, must have been loved sometime, and the money it cost if it was yours would you have left it like that?
