We spent a few days in the Haute Marne area - Lac du Der, Froncles, Chaumont, Chateau Thierry - and did not see a single Brit van. Where do you all go?

We recently went to the aire at Amneville, north of Metz, but on our way to Germany.

We plan to give the area a proper look before too long.

Yes, Devonbeekeeper, a bit more interesting than Belgium - beautiful countryside and villages if you keep off the main roads, Champagne, lakes! I think the French are happy that we keep away!
Further north we love Charleville Mezieres. Beautiful town and a fantastic free aire!

Currently in Millau, quite a few brits here.

We also pass through northeast France with hardly a sideways glance. Mind you the weather was a bit naff when we passed through a week or so back.

I challenge anyone who grew up with Eagle comic or TV21 to visit the Atomium in Brussels and not find it interesting. Maybe Belgium's too tainted with battlefields for us to consider the other options, like Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and so on, not to mention the beer.

We rated Froncles very highly a few years back. Lasrweek we drove in and out again as it was full with full-time residents in motorhomes and a caravan parked . Also it was looking a bit neglected.

just got back, after crossing Northern France we travelled down the Eastern side as far as Marseilles, then traveled North crossing the country to Normandy following the coast then back to Calais. We had a lovely visit with Peter and Caroline (StCyr) who were the only funsters we saw on the whole 2300 mile trip only saw one Brit van the whole trip. I expect they were all heading for twin lakes, (our favourite aire was fully booked with yanks, hee hee)

Montherme is lovely. Recently upgraded with grasscrete parking and hook ups available if wanted. They have also installed a landing stage for the boats. The harbour office has a shower and washing machine available too.

@ScotJimland

It's all official now. The harbour master collects a fee now, I can't remember how much but I don't think it was expensive (although I think the electric was so we didn't bother). They also came and checked who had hooked up to the bollards.

We are there now on our way to the Moselle . Many towns have a very down at heel neglected look about them ....shabby without the chic . Charleville Meziers is one exception as well as Metz both look more affluent than the rest . The countryside is very nice and there are some decent Aires scattered about . Maybe much of this area has seen too many battles in the past and has not fully recovered . In the past we have enjoyed cycling around Lac du Der as well as a stay in Froncles cycling on the canal on our way to Champagne and Burgundy .

Let me guess, the large white ex-military vehicle in your photo - Dutch? Even if not, they do seem to specialise in huge novelty conversions.

Troyes is a very nice town.
Lovely market and a clean well presented large town.
Going back that way again on the trip south for the winter.

We do northeast france quite often, mainly for WW1 history and the lovely towns of Arras and Amiens.
Now in Germany, a very wet Nessalwang, near Fussen. Came down through Belgium, those Belgium roads!!!
Climbed the mound at Waterloo and found great walking and cycling paths in the Belgium Ardennes. Stayed on lovely aire at Hans-sur-Lesse, 7.50 a night including electric.
On our way across Austria later today to Italy, hope we get the sun back soon as couldn't see the mountains yesterday.
But where are those GB plates?
Janis

beats me why anyone wants or uses one for traveling in Europe.. they are like fish out of water.. reminds me of the 4x4 owners who buy them for the school run ..
