Hymer B574 knew about the flat paintwork before I bought the van, am in the process of tidying it up, the front HYMER panel is a bit sad, cracked and crazed,

it has been bedded on a mastic, very thick and crudely applied, are they all like this?

so is hymer cut out panel fitted on body dry, with just a screw at each corner? I only came across this anomaly when making room to change the radiator ( and condenser) thanks

Doh!! Will remove the gunge and see what it looks like, I feel the panel is a bit long and flexible for the two small screws in the top to adequately support it, sometimes I do up to 50mph!

The front panel will be fibreglass, certainly looks it from the cracks, if you want to tidy this up first you need to make sure there is no structural damage to the back and if ther is it needs backing up with a bit more fibreglass, you then need to dig out the cracks in the Gelcoat with a Dremel or similar and then fill them with Gelcoat. Once they are all filled it can be flatted back and painted.

Think you are right there, well looked after in this case was a clean loo! Never mind am catching up and like the van despite niggles, its 15 years old so I would probably be changing many of the bits and pieces causing me angst anyway.

I got a new(ish) front grill panel for our Hymer (Ducato cab) on fleabay......just keep looking, something will appear. It looks like yours might have had a 'push back' at some time.

Thanks Martin, not sure if I am brave enough to attempt renovation?Maybe a winter project.

Have taken panel (whilst replacing radiators) off, removed all the gungy mastic, and put it back, fingers crossed, have mastic in the back in case the panels vibrate, have visions of a reed effect when driving into the wind, don't want to be mistaken for an ice cream van, fed up with people asking for double cheeseburgers as it is.

PS is the grille/mesh in bottom of front panel fully fitted to the whole it protects? Is that fixed with self tappers on it's top edge only? (mine is)
