We have just booked tunnel, were off to France for 3 weeks in June & no idea where to go. We went twice last year for 2 two week stints Brittany & Bordeaux area. This year looking at the French German boarder area. Any recommendations would be gratefully received, the idea is to stop a night or two then move on.

As you will know, there are just so many great places to visit in France (and Germany).

If you find yourselves anywhere near Strasbourg I can recomment the stellplatz at Kehl, just across the Rhine. Kehl itself is a very nice town and its easy to get the bus and tram over to Strasbourg.

This is Kehl stellplatz, easy walk to the river and town:

@Judgemental - we're thinking of heading towards Alsace in May. Any recommendations on specific areas to go to?
Thanks,
Bill
P.S. @plumbomb - we visited the Mosel valley in September last year and just loved it! Beautiful scenery, great wine, friendly people and plenty of nice places to stay.

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.
The Mosel + Rhein is a lovely way to pass the time and drink some superb wine. Huge number of sites and stellplatz.

Brian, we will be travelling back from Italy following the Rhine Northwards as far as Cologne. Not done this before and it will be July before we reach Germany. Will we have to book campsites at that time of year and will the Stellplatz be very busy? Thanks lotly. (y)

We are travelling south on the romantic road now, the stellplatz are great. Just on a lovely peaceful one in rottenburg beside the river, lovely small town with 20 sundials dotted around the town. 20c for lovely clean toilets and showers. We came to germany years ago, forgot how clean, beautiful and motorhome friendly it is. Anyone doing the romantic road there is a camper stop in wurzburg, busy and a bit noisy but ideal to visit the city. Easy walk in and the Residence, palace, is a must see and bargain at 7.5 euro entrance fee. You can park the camper in the car park too. Wurzburg is lovely and buzzing and I don't like cities

Here's another place in Germany we visited on our 2012 tour, a small town called Haigerloch. Nice free stellplatz and pleasant town to wander round.

Most unusual feature is in the basement below one of the churches. Towards the end of WW2 they built a simple reactor and were experimenting with nuclear fusion here apparently.

Haigerloch is about midway between Strasbourg and Bodensee (aka Lake Constance - superb).
