Way I see it is...if the above is possible/viable....savesubstantial toll fees and see more of the 'real' France. Or am I deluded?
All/Any help/advice welcomed.

No.... done it many many times in past...
In fact less than 2 hours had a call off "Polarbear", fellow funster and he is down on the med coast and travelled down that way this week, all toll free..

My route would be Calais, Rouen, Chartes, Chateadun, Blois, Chateauroux, A20 free motorway (come off and back to main rd when the toll starts), Toulouse, Carcossone, Narbone then Perpignan...

Just allow more time and enjoy....

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.
Roughly how long would that route take?

its as near as 600 miles, will depend on how you drive, we reckon on overall 35mph average speed, I know that sounds low but it isn't for this type of road and our type of driving

So you need 18 hours driving time

For some that's a day, for us 4-5 days (y)

www.viamichelin.com suggests 750miles or around 18-20 hours, not including stops.

We've never done it 'in one hit' even using tolls, although I am the sole driver.

Find travelling over a week much more relaxing and enjoy some fine aires on route.

It's not only the cost of tolls, it's the high price of motorway fuel, can easily pay 15-20c more a litre compared to supermarket prices.

apologies for my awful sums, halved km's to get miles , 750 is much more realistic to increase our driving time to 22 hours

We don't rush anywhere so take three days for that journey, stopping at aires at Sully-sur-Loire and Le Cheix. We do pay 11 euros to cross the Millau bridge as it saves a lot of time.

If in a hurry use tolls. If not just go toll free and enjoy the scenery. The only toll I would take is the bit from Bordeaux into Spain, such a pain in the arse on normal roads. Any other pain in the arse roads to recommend ?

As a comparison (time wise) Calais/Rouen/Chartres, then join the toll at Orleans, Clermont Ferrand, Millau, Perpignan - takes around 13hrs driving time.

We have done that route for the past 5-6 years (over a day and a half) due to limited holiday time, BUT THIS YEAR WE HAVE 3 MONTHS so no rush :)

Dunkirk, round to left of paris then on to Claremont Ferrand and the free A75 to the med....turn right for Spain and ultimately Benecasim and not a single toll (other than Millau viaduct)

4 days.

After Blois, follow signs for Chateuroux and you will hit the motorway junction as it's before the town. Jump on and you can go so far for free but once the toll section starts you can jump off and join the old road that goes down via Cahours.
It has been a few years since I did that route so cant give to much current info, did use to do it at least twice a year and cant imagine that much has changed...
