As I'm gonna be away in for 2 months in Spain & Lanzarote in summer I'm contemplating 3's Feel at Home jobby :)

Got the leaflets in store today, but there was only 1 guy serving the whole shop and a long queue to see him :(

I'm gonna choose SIM only PAYG as it works out OK for 2 months :)

I understand it all apart from the tethering and using as a hot spot abroad in Spain :crying:

So, there's probably many on here using it who can help, hopefully ;)

Or do we have to get a Mifi or dongle or summat ?

I'll be mainly using my phone for t'internet but will also want to be able to link up a couple of laptops occasionally.

All help gratefully accepted etc etc

I believe tethering is allowed on PAYG in feel at home locations, but not on contract.....not even 1 month rolling contracts.

Seem to remember hearing you have to buy a 30 day bundle/package though.
you cant use credit alone to tether like in the uk.

Oops, want to know if it works in Spain as the poster in the shop was a bit ambiguous :(

Depends where you are going. - doesn't work in Germany , but France , Belgium Spain Austria ok. Aldo be aware on border areas as can sometimes put you in Germany when in fact on France border
We just used payg on a mi-fi device, so need to tether and connect many devices at same time for data
Didn't use for phone calls - data only
Download maps before hand as they use a huge amount of data otherwise.

Do you need to buy one of theirs or can you buy your own and put the SIM in ?

Loads of cheap mifi units on ebay....many unlocked already.

They only accept data only simcards....no means of speech or texting.

I have this one....around £50 when i bought it a couple of years ago without included data allowance.
its never let me done as long as theres a signal.

Have been using 3 in France for several years. Last year I was able to use my phone as a portable hotspot to 'tether' my iPad, but only within a limit of so many Gb per month. I used it a lot, and I k ow I didn't get charged any extra because if my bill goes over its limit I get a roasting from Ron!

Although, checking out their website it appears I may just have been lucky! Here's what's not included:

What's not included?
  • If you have all-you-can-eat data you can use up to 25GB. If you have all-you-can-eat texts you can send up to 5,000 texts. If you have 3,000 or more minutes included in your allowance you can use up to 3,000 minutes.
  • Numbers that start with 070, 09 and 118 directory services.
  • Feel At Home is designed for UK residents who are on holiday or business trips abroad, not for extended periods abroad.
  • You can't use your phone as a personal hotspot (tethering) while you're abroad.

Might be worth calling into a phone shop and asking. Though it's always a bit hit and miss whether you'll find someone to help! In my experience they are either witless teens or absolutely brilliant! Pot luck!
