On and off for many years.
As it says really.

Now we are retired :) we plan to make trips that are associated with our hobbies..... so model engineering shows, craft shows, trips to places where there are specialist shops.

Why rush there and back in a day when you can make a mini-holiday and explore?

I read other peoples blogs and get ideas, as we are new to this, usually means I change my mind on a daily basis, driving Nige nuts :D
Wish we had a motorhome when we scuba dived, would as been brilliant.

A lot depends how much time we have. If its only 2 or 3 days, we don't want to waste too much time driving, so will stay nearer to home. If its a week or more, we'll plan somewhere further afield.

The Warwickshire Exhibition Centre just off the Fosse Way have loads of model engineering type shows, model trains, model boats, model just about anything! And some fabulous caravan sites nearby, both fully serviced and little CL's.

Until Barrie retires, most of our weekends away revolve around the music festivals we're playing at and Funster rallies.

We have a huge 'to-do' list of places to visit and are working through them in the main holidays but Cornwall keeps calling us back at the moment.

Cornwall now top of list as our son & familky ( 2 granddaughters) have just moved to Gorran Haven, so several trips there this year via Devon/ Dorset/ Somerset while on the way. Plus a trip to Brittany in sept as I love trips to France. Expect next year simliar!!! albeit different part of France.

The last couple of years, apart from some Fun rallies, we've looked at the lists of THSs and meets run by the C&CC and MCC, matched them to areas we would like to visit and then played it by ear.

I think Jill would really like a meet near this place in Burnley but "unfortunately" we've never made it :D

We generally try to avoid crowds, look for places with walking, mountains, warmth helps - a lot for Mrs DBK. For ideas where to go I find looking at maps or even just an atlas gives inspiration and interesting looking roads and coastlines get added to the list. I also get ideas from books - travel stuff by the likes of Edward Enfield, Eric Newby, Chris Stewart etc.

If it's just a short trip, say a weekend, just wherever takes our fancy, sometimes it may be by recommendation, sometimes just somewhere we've never been, sometimes just random.

At least once a year we go down south to visit in laws, that is probably our longest trip.
Since we have had the motorhome each year we have had trips to the Borders, North Scotland,
North England and Dumfriesshire, not very adventurous but suits us at the moment. We try to choose sites with good dog walks, edge of village if possible and small and quiet.

This year, instead of charging south for 5 days to catch the southern European sunshine, we're staying further north and using the spare driving days to visit large one-off flea markets and buy EuroVintage stuff to sell back here. We'll still get the usual amount of R& R time in, but may not have as much room in the MH for wine and beer.

For short UK trips it's either places we already like, new places to see, or visiting distant relatives. The MH is also handy for Antiques shows where you can set up the stall the night before then kip overnight in the car park.
