I know I know, its good and cheap.

What I am really wondering is, is there much Rose on offer as well as the red and white stuff?
We like a nice sweet Rose. (y)

The French drink a surprisingly large amount of rose these days, I am not sure when this fashion started but you will see it being drunk in bars very frequently.
Mind, they do have taste and don't drink sweet ones. :)

Well ...this is quite a question! I was tempted to say .."No we don't do Rosé" but I thought may be ...English humour is just a tale.. a bit like Rosé hey? (Is it BTW ?;))....!

Plenty plenty of different and marvellous quite cheap wines of that specific colour!!
You can drink a different Rosé during each single meal you'll have, for at least a month hols... Do you think you'll cope with this?

Enjoy....

The temptation in France is to go straight to the bottom shelf in the supermarket because they do wine by the carton for only a Euro a throw, so you get a load in, get home, and discover to your cost that you get what you pay for in France just like everywhere else.

A kinder option for your stomach is to pay a bit less than you'd normally pay at home but get a better quality wine for your money.

There's no shortage of Rose over there, although I don't like the stuff myself.

Would rather spend four or five Euros every time tbh.

Also wouldn't rule out white wine, there are plenty of delicious sweet whites from Bordeaux on the market, seems very popular at the moment.

There is plenty of choice of rose. Most larger supermarkets will have 40+ different types the most popular of which is Rose d'Anjou out of the Loire Valley.

Only a few million bottles just might be sufficient to quench your thirst temporarily I imagine!

Didn't know you could get a sweet Rose, never been that much of a fan of Rose wine until last year then we discovered Rose form the Camargue region and found them very palatable.

France is the place to be for wine. Can't help on he rose though as I normally only drink red , or white if it's very dry.
Swmbo drinks rose and seems happy with the choice, though some are a bit sweet for her taste.
One of the few things we agree on is that sweet wine is an abomination.

I got very drunk on Rose in Honfleur on my wife's 3oth birthday some years back.

You know the sort of thing , sunny day al fresco lunch, and all of a sudden its dark and you are still at the same table.

If you like a sweetish rose wine try Cabernet D'Anjou, available at all good supermarkets in bottles and boxes. Varies from about 11 euros to 19 euros for 5 litres in a box.

Intermarche near Eauze/Barbatan in the Gers do a very nice locally grown rose named Puyo, in 5ltr purple boxes for e9.50, should you find yourself nearby. It's my daughter-in-law's fave. We're quite partial too, it's beautiful with lunch on a hot day, when the red is too heady. And the red version is even better for evening dinner, for me.

Great stuff thanks everyone.

We not looking for a sickly sweet Rose, just something similar in taste to a white zinfandel which is our favourite

We are certainly not experts on wine, can you tell? ;) lol

I am no expert either. Isn't Zinfadel quite dry though?

If you decide you've had enough of the pink stuff and want to dabble with the red for a change, I've yet to have a bad Cote du Rhone, and that's based on extenshive shientific reshearsh.

Took a wine box (South African Red) with us on this trip. Just cut the corner off the bag and squeezed out half a glass after it stopped coming out of the tap. Which of course no one else does!
