tunnel booked for 2.40 tomorrow afternoon, van loaded ready for 6 o clock start in the morning , hoping to get a couple of hours earlier crossing, havnt a clue where we are going for the first week as long as we end up around bordoux the week after to visit friends, near twin lakes ,so might go there for a night or two , parc verger maybe before that, and Blaye will probably be in there somewhere, anyone else going give us a wave.
Be trying out the Chinese tablet with the three sim in it, so maybe still on to report if it works.

All packed? Hopefully not including wine, cheese or bread? Plenty of choice where you are going.

Although to be fair you can buy some good wines at low cost in the UK these days. But buying wine in France just feels better!

That's right you can buy good wines in the UK these days, but for value you can't beat 5 or even 10litre
( depending upon how much you drink!) wine boxes from the french supermarkets. We are just finishing a 5ltr L'Heritage de Carillan Vin du Pays d'Oc, we bought in St Jean D'Aulps in February. Very nice and very cheap. We find a wine box works well in the motorhome, and sits in a spare drawer.

Seems a lot but when you put it against going to pubs we have a bottle a night at a £1 how much does it cost for a glass in a pub £3 , couple of pints £3 each you aren't long before you've bought ten bottles in one night

Been a nice day in staffs today hope it lasts for the sheep and lambs at home, been up most nights since beginning of February lambing so ready for a couple of weeks off and let my daughter look after them now.

Good for you, I live opposite a farm that use to have sheep so know what lambing can be like. Bet your daughter does a great job.

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
Coming home and wanting to stock up before you get on the ferry, I can (perhaps) understand the comment about 5L only lasting you a week but come on! - whilst travelling about you have to go shopping at least once a week otherwise you'd never have any fresh fruit or veg, so you can grab a replacement winebox whilst you're out! Or a few bottles of whatever's good locally, cos it only has to last till you go shopping again - not the rest of your hols.

We were on a Pub CL a fortnight ago, went in the pub for a meal as you do - in Suffolk and they had draft Aspalls cider. So Pete had a pint of that and I had a G & T. £8.50 ish. However a few weeks before that we were at that pub with the spa at Caister. Pete had a pint of IPA and my G&T - under £6.50. God knows what we'd have had to pay for wine - but a lot of pubs actually ask now if you'll want more than 1 glass each since it's cheaper to buy a bottle and get two glasses. It didn't stop us having more than one, and just treat it as a special occasion LOL

Anyway we said how much we'd enjoyed it both times but OTOH we certainly couldn't do it all that frequently - we were appalled at the price in Suffolk.

In a church car park n a little place below Amiens tonight, can't get the three sim to work in the dongle to tether the iPad but works perfect in this Chinese phablet.
We have Park4night app in it, makes you realise that alltheaires book has no where near ALL the Aires, loads around here that are not in the book

You can buy wine in boxes in UK but they are only 2.25L and not much choice. We always use boxes in France, as our taste in wine is such that SWMBO and I never drink the same one. A 5l box each will last us a week (disgusting I know, or do I mean degustation) whereas 12-14 bottles would take up a lot of space and weight. It is possible to buy 'appelation controlee' even occasional chateaux bottled (boxed?) in boxes in France. They UK ones are usually Vin de pays at best, though some can be very nice. A 5l box of dry white will fit in the fridge door quite nicely together with a milk carton.

As to the wine, didn't meen we was buying when we got here, just when we go home, and as to the boxes we find we drink too much, when its open we drink it, whereas we have a bottle between us with dinner and that's it, don't open another, saying that we do buy the occasional box if we see a good one at the right price, but save it till there are more of us.
We also have a couple of those collapsible water carries and fill them at the pumps in the big wine places.
Sounds as if we are big drinkers but not really , don't have a bottle every night and if we go out I ,more often than not stick to j2o and lemonade because I'm often driving and I like it.
