I know about using cheap coke (not the powdered stuff cos that's expensive) to clean waste pipes and tanks.
But is it ok to use in the Theftford cassette. I think that it must be scaled up in there because of the flaky stuff that comes out when I rinse it out after emptying it.
Don't want to use the coke and rot the seals etc like its supposed to rot your guts.
Thanks folks.

I think it's the phosphoric acid in coke that does the business, someone on here suggested using citric acid from a home brew shop. It should be plastic safe too and no sugary residue to stick up your rubber seal and flap mechanism if you dont get it all rinsed off.

Anything that is acidic will help remove lime scale.. ie with a pH below 7

acetic acid.. ie white vinegar pH 2
grapefruit juice pH2.5
lemon juice pH2
citric acid pH2

Coca-Cola contains small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid.
Phosphoric acid is commonly used for rust removal.!

I'd use white vinegar ..it won't harm rubber or plastic.. about a cupful and fill with warm water.. not hot.. leave overnight and rinse..

The small amount of acids in cola probably wont have any affect on scale.
its ideal for removing sludge type deposits.

As scotjim said.....cheapest white vinegar, then a bit of pongy stuff to mask the vinegar smell.

I often use citric acid to clean stains from the toilet bowl which in turn goes into the cassette.I sprinkle some around the edge of the inside of the pan, leave for around half an hour, all stains are gone.
When at a borne I sprinkle some citric acid around the seals, with rubber gloves on I work that into the crystals that have built up from our wee, you can feel it removing the crystals from around the seal.
Not a nice explanation but has to be done otherwise blades on the cassette get difficult to open and might possibly break during operation.

I use lemon juice to clear limescale in my kettle, but coffee tastes awful when you forget to rinse the lemon juice out properly!

In the Thetford cassette when i empty it before leaving the site i put in some water and a laundry tablet(from lidl) in the cassette so it swills about on the way home then rinse it out when home.

I also use the tablets in the cassette when ever i empty it.
