For a start It won't be on german plates. Plates there belong to owner, on sale he removes and fits to next vehicle.

So you will get third party red export plates from his local tax office including 5 days 3rd party export insurance.

Once it lands in uk you have previously arranged full comp insurance on VIN plate.30 days best. Allowing time to do changes, get cert from VCA and send paperwork to dvla

Order a free export pack from dvla it has everything you need. Dont forget to get a COC from seller (certificate of compliance) very important that!

Have fun:)

Euromobil great but avoid the budget Profila range. Nearly
went for an LMC once nice vans, GRP body like euromobil. Good dealer for both in Belgium :)

Hymer a safe bet, easy to sell on in the UK as so popular...good dealer in Belgium as well

LMC make some very nice vans, but they are not much cheaper than the Hymer's and virtually unheard of over here. If you are going to keep the van for 10 or more years doesn't matter what you buy. If you are likely to change the van within 5/6 years I would go for a Hymer, you can always sell a Hymer.

The chausson prices are way down on the UK and the delivery charges are not stuck on top of those. I do not that the secondhand mileages are way up on ours, probably because they do not have to worry about the added costs of ferries and so just go when they want without the hassle.

Secondhand mileages look higher as they are in kilometers

YEAH YEAH I know that but they are mostly higher I think they just go using what we have to pay for ferries as diesel money.

There is talk of importing from Belgium and Germany but what about buying in France? I realise the process in the UK will be the same but has anyone any experience of French dealers, negotiating a good price and getting to the ferry legally?

You have a plate on retention which you want to assign to your imported new motorhome. The DVLA have said fine send in the retention document with the new import registration V55 etc and it will be assigned. I get my insurance on the plate and send that in with the application, and other paperwork. You are insured for that registration, you have the road fund tax cheques etc with the DVLA and kept copies as proof of application. Can you then drive the MH with the cherished plate, because you already have the plates, awaiting the V5?
When I assign my plates between cars I normally do just that. Seems logical.

Our second van was 1987/88 Hobby brought over from Germany.. It was REALLY cheap and only cost about £100 in total to get everything sorted out.. Mileage was bloody low too for a van that was almost 20 years old ( from memory it was about 70,000 miles )

It was a very easy and painless excerise
