Would love some advice on minimising condensation on inside of cab window, especially in evening when cooking. We have no extractor, and its currently too cold to have a window open. Thanks

Eat in the pub down the road. Several main outstanding advantages. You can have a pint whilst waiting, you have no washing up, and you dont have to put up with the wife's cooking. (y)

Anything using propane in this weather will cause conden, no matter what you do.

If you are cooking the only way to reduce or avoid condensation is to have vents or Windows open. We always keep our roof vent on the night setting and unless it's windy the window as well. If cooking we often open a cab window a crack as well.

Another vote for external silver screens here absolutely stops all condensation on your windscreen even in the depths of winter.

No, sorry, it doesnt, least not here. Would dehumidifier crystals help?

External screens will stop most condensation but not from cooking. The only way, as others have said, is to have a little ventilation. It doesn't have to be a fully open window, just an open vent or a window opened a little. It doesn't have to be for long either.

Cheaper just to pour some salt into a cereal dish, but no, I don't think that would help. Bottles gas, unventilated, produces more than it's own weight in water vapour when burning in a cold environment.

Put a jumper on and open a window. :)
External screens will cut down condensation especially that which builds up overnight while you are sleeping but as others have said not a chance when you are cooking, especially if you are boiling things.

We have external screens and internal Remis binds across the windscreen and side front windows. Also Remis blinds on all the other plastic twin-skinned windows. This helps, but the only way to prevent condensation build-up during cooking (particularly boiling rice / pasta etc.) is to open the main roof vent a little and open the window next to the hob. And our van has a small extractor fan above the hob too!

I posted a threat last November, as we had the same problem, so bought an external screen, FANTASTIC, and once you get the knack of doing it, it's now quicker to fix the external screen and mess around with the internal ones.

Getting there!
As good as the external screens are, I have found the condensation moves elsewhere! In our case to the roof above the drop down bed.

Not long enough!
You could try using lids on the pots while cooking, this should hopefully help to minimise the condensation :)

Getting better
You should always have some additional ventilation when using the gas stove, open a roof vent to let the water vapour out along with the fumes from the combustion and the cooking process.!

Also try to create less steam while cooking----a pressure cooker is good--but ventilation is the only way----that moisture will condense somewhere else if not on the windscreen, better to be where you know where it is.

If you continue to cook/boil without ventilation the moisture with get into the fabric of your van. If I was cooking I would definitely open the window behind the hob and open a roof vent until the cooking is finished. Breathing damp air isn't good for your health.

Don't understand why you can't open the kitchen window, unless in northern Scandinavia can't think of anywhere else in Europe where it would be too cold I assume you have the heating on.
We have a Fantastic Vent above the kitchen.

We use external screens in the winter and that, along with sensible ventilation when cooking, cuts out most of the condensation. However there are always days when we end up with misted windows and rivers running down the screen when we try to dry them.
SO
We spotted a Vileda window vac on sale at B&Q. We've given it a try once and it seems to suck up most of the water in the morning. We'll give it a more serious try out at Newbury.

Silver screens for our new van arrived today, had a practice run fitting them and it seemed easy except for the extra 2 bits of velcro, off on friday so fingers crossed they work as well as people say. We also have remis cab blinds. Will also open a roof vent a bit.
